Bowhead Whale (Grenland Right Whale)

This report tells about bowhead whales, how they behave, what are their uses, and how they live. I think people need to know much more about Bowhead's, because we don't know everything about them. You know there are probably a different kind of bowhead, but looks different, and can stay in the water for a long time, and lives in really deep water. It also tells about how big they are, and how they cummunicate (talk to each other). People should care more about bowhead whales, and stop puloting (that's what I think).

Hunters in the old times usually hunt the for the female, because the males don't taste as good. Point Hope Eskimos have hunted them for 1000's of years.

Each gives about 3100 gallons of oil. They were easy to hunt because they swim slowly.

People who hunted whales couldn't get more than 5 whales. Some people who hunted whales would use everything that was useful to them, from the whale. They would use the jaw to make sled runners, shoulder bone was used for a part of a house, and skin and blubber are used to make drum heads. Blubber was used for food, can be for gum, and can be good firewood.

They travel in pods (groups). They are named because of their curved mouth. They are found in the Northen Hemisphere. It strains water with baleen. They eat krill.

It needs water (it is a mammal). It can stay under the water for 20 minutes and up to a hour. They can blow water up to 19 to 20 feet, through their blow hole. It breathes through their blow hole, they're blow hole is up to 18 inches.

Their blubber is 16 to 20 inches thick, it helps from the cold water. Their skin is black or gray, but their belly is light.

The can communicate by sound, they make frequent vocals, and of course humans can't understand anything what they are saying.
