Polo's Raven posts

The Weekend in Homer

Hello, I'm Polo and I am in the E.L.P. class at Denali Elementary. We just went on a field trip to Homer, Alaska. I had a great time and it was fun.

It was Saturday, April 29th, 2006 at 7:30 in the morning and we were getting checked in at the airport heading for Anchorage. It was packed! It took us a long time to get on the plane. It was about an hour later when we got on the plane. When we left it was scary because the plane started shaking and then we were getting lower, and lower, and lower.

When we got to Anchorage we stopped at Sam's Club and Fred Meyer to get groceries. While some chaperones went in the store all of the kids played outside in the parking lot with a football. Before all of the adults came out of the store we all got back on the bus. It was almost 10:00. I was tired of waiting for the adults so I took a nap.

The Yukon Quest

The Yukon Quest

Hi I'm Polo I am doing a report on the Yukon Quest. I did a lot of research and this took me a long time, because I changed this whole story around into my own words so this is what I got so far:

The Yukon Quest was started by two guys named LeRoy Shank and Roger Williams. They gave there vision of gold to all the people in the north. The race was started in 1984 with 27 teams taking up 1,000 miles/ 1,600 km of dangerous paths of Whitehorse and Fairbanks, Alaska. This race always begins in the middle of February when it is extremely cold out. The starting place switches every year, when Fairbanks has even years and Whitehorse has odd years. The race always starts on time and will last from 11 to 14 days.

The Week of the Test

The test that we took, I took, was boring. I didn't really think it was fun or cool. I didn't finish in a hurry either. I took my time because I knew that if I went fast I would fail the test. The part that I didn't want to do was the reading. Writing and math were ok but they had a couple of things that I had to guess on. In math there were at least 5 trick questions and none of them were multiple choice so they put on there to bubble in the (best fit)answer. The math was better than reading and writing because math is my favorite subject. Most of the class finished around 11:00 to about 11:15.

The Spelling Bee

On February 8, 2006 there was a spelling bee at school. There was about 25 kids who entered the bee. I was first to go up. My word was buffalo. After I spelled it I went and sat down and the other 24 people went. At the second round there was only five people left. We all stayed in until the fourth round. It was my turn and my word was electrochemical "That is correct!". There was two kids left.

"There will now be a spell off between these two contestants."

"Polo your word is parentage."

"I'm sorry that is incorrect."

"Zack can you spell parentage?"

"That is correct"

At that time I was certain that I was going to lose but I knew that I was still going to the district spelling bee. So on March 4, 2006 I went to the district spelling bee. I was second to go up. My word was unique

Hurray for Ali Baba Bernstein

Hurray for Ali Baba Bernstein is a book written by Johanna Hurwitz. This is the first book I have read by her. And so far I think that she is good.

The main characters in this book are Ali Baba, whose real name is David Bernstein, his mother Mrs. Bernstein, and a girl named Natalie who has a crush on him.

The major problem in this book is at the beginning. The problem is that Ali Baba's teacher named Mrs. Melrose reminded the class all week that they are going to the library on Friday and on Friday he left his card at home. He didn't know he did because he keeps it in his plastic case were he keeps his bus pass. He barley noticed that it was missing because he was on the bus and when he got off he noticed. So he asked Natalie, the girl who likes him, if he could borrow her card. She said sure, so Ali Baba asked for it and she said that she thought he meant later in the afternoon.

Ralph S. Mouse

Ralph S. Mouse is a book written by Beverly Cleary. Beverly Cleary is a good writer. She has also written another book with Ralph in it called Runaway Ralph.

The main characters are Ralph and Ryan. You are probably wondering who Ryan is so I'll tell you. Ryan is a kid who stays at the inn where Ralph is. Ryan's mom works at the inn.

The major problem in this book is that Ralph has relatives who are jealous that he has a motorcycle. They always argue with him and say that he is greedy. So when Ralph gets tired of it he wants to leave the inn. He has nowhere to go because if he leaves he's afraid that he will freeze. So he thinks about it for a while and one day Ryan is in the lobby watching his favorite show and Ralph goes up to him and asks, "Ryan do you think that it's possible if I go and live at your school."

The Alien who tried to destroyed the world

Part 1
One day an evil alien named Mark tried to destroy the world. He tried to destroy the world because all of the other aliens always talked about him and he thought if nobody, not even his parents, cared about him that they wouldn't care if he tried to destroy the world.

Mark had a twin named Rocky and they hated each other. His twin was nice but they never got along. And once his brother Rocky stopped him from destroying the world.

When Mark was little he was really bad. Mark was the younger one. Rocky was good. Their parents always paid more attention to Rocky than Mark. That's how Mark became evil. He got tired of his parent always paying more attention to Rocky than him.

When Rocky was twenty years old he saved the world from an asteroid that was headed stight for Earth. At that time Mark was out making things to destroy the world. Mark made some cool weapons. He had big bombs that could take out a state. He had lazers that could burn a hole through someone. He had almost the best things. Rocky didn't want to stop Mark because he didn't have good weapons to use. His bombs or his lazers weren't good enough for him. All of Mark's weapons were more powerful than Rocky's.
