Change One Thing About School
If I could change anything about school, I would make the classes have a lot less students in them. I think that this would help because each student would get more attention from the teacher. If this happened, the kids' grades would improve and the same with their behavior. Each student would be more carefully watched, so they would have less opportunites to get into trouble. Also, in smaller classes, the class would get more done because they don't have to wait on others, therefore learning more, too.
The classes would be divided into levels of learning. Some of them would work at a faster rate, and the other classes at a slower rate. Of course, there would have to be a lot more teachers, which means more jobs, so this would help the economy as well. It might not ever happen, but I would Love it if it did!
Gym everyday
If I could change school it would be so we would have Gym every day. If we get to go outside in gym it would be so fun. We could bring all the equipment out. I would bring a dodgeball out, and hit random people. Then I would get the most trusted people I know and engage the enemy, which of course would be the reds.
It would be good, of course, because we get to waste a lot of energy. The bad thing is that we wouldn't learn anything about it. But most importantly it's about engaging the enemy units. But we would have fun in the process.
The spelling bee
Today we had our school spelling bee. There were three people left: Karalee, Breneth, and Matthew. Karalee got out. Then it was just the other two. It was the championship word. And Matthew spelled the first word right. Then it was Breneth's turn. He spelled his word wrong. Matthew had to spell Breneth's word, and his own word. He did. He also won the spelling bee. He's going to regionals!
How I lost the spelling bee: The Real Story
Okay, so I lost the spelling bee. So what? Here's the so what: I was siting quietly on my chair dreading my next turn. (I had already been up twice.) When they called my name, yes as the title reads I lost the spelling bee and yes, this was the round and my word was S-W-A-L-L-O-W. Easy, right?
Here's the thing, as I got up from the bench to go to the microphone when the kid who would eventually get in 2nd place started snapping and mouthing HURRY UP-HURRY UP-HURRY UP. And then he started to act like he was really bored. That's when I got super nervous and started shaking and my palms started sweating. And I just thought, Should't he be disqualified? It seemed that no one else noticed him, so I went up and spelled it wrong. And I'll probably go cry at home and eat ice-cream. But 6th place is all right? Right?
The School Spelling Bee
I just got back from the school spelling bee. I was in it. In the beginning it was easy, but towards the end the words got harder. At first I was nervous but I guess it went away. What also happened was before the spelling bee, I got the hic-ups, but they went away too. I ended up getting third place. The word I got out on was commune. Here's what happened.
Mrs. Zaverl said "Your word is commune."
So I said, "Commune, c-o-m-u-n-e, commune."
Then she said "I'm sorry that's incorrect."
I realized that I forgot the other m. I was so disappointed! At least I got third instead of nothing.
school spelling bee
Today(Feb.3)our school had a spelling bee. There wasn't that many classes there, and I was suprised my teacher even let us go. My teacher didn't last year, that's why.
When we first got there my teacher sat us down and stuff, what we normally do every assembly. I was confused because when we walked in there usually 6th graders get chairs and there were no chairs. Anyways, we sat down and the spelling word began.
I was so happy that both of my classmates made it to the 3rd round. They were doing very well. I was sad because one of them got a word wrong. It was ok because my other classmate was still in, until she spelled a word wrong too. It was so amazing because it was only a 4th grader and a 6th grader left. It turned out the 4th grader won.
It was amazing!
The Spelling Bee
At School today it was the spelling bee. My classmate, Kool Kat, won third place in the spelling bee and my friend's brother won the the whole spelling bee. When he won he was so happy he lifted his hands up. He won and he only was a fourth grader. In march they go to Hering auditorium.
my brother won the spelling bee
Today we watched my brother win the spelling bee. Everyone went out slowly. Soon there were 3 people left - Karalee, Breneth, and Matthew. Karalee went out first on a word I can't think of right now. Then Breneth went out on twinkly. He spelled it "T, W, I, N, K, L, W,". Then it was my bother's turn. He had to spell the same word. "T, W, I, N, K, L, Y," he spelled it right, but he had to spell one more word to win.
"Easily," said the judge.
"E, A, S, I, L, Y." YES! Matthew won the spelling bee.
My New Book
I just got a new book. It is called Raising Stanley. I haven't started it yet, but it is about teams that have won the Stanley Cup. The Stanley Cup is a trophy of the NHL, National Hockey League.
The NHL is the best league in the world. All the best players from all over the world go and play in that league. You get the Stanley Cup when you win playoffs. Winning the Stanley Cup is my dream. When you win it everyone on the team raises it and kisses it. Then in the locker room everyone on the team drinks champagne out of it. Then they get a day with the Stanley Cup.
Last year the Stanley Cup went to the Big Dipper, here in Fairbanks. It was so cool being an inch away from it. It weighs 30 pounds but when you win it, it weighs nothing. I want to win it so bad.
Dreadful suprise!
Eggs are my least favorite food. They are gross in many different ways. They taste like slime to me. They are also very watery. Watery things just slide down my throat. Eggs, to me, smell like nothing. Very raw. Eggs feel like butter. My mom would make them with the yolk inside. The yolk was the worst part. My mom would make me sit at the table until I finished. It was dreadful. But those are some of the reasons why I hate eggs!
Hades, God of the Underworld
I learned about Hades. Hades was one of the gods of the underworld. When he was born he was swallowed by his father. When his brother, Zeus, was born, Hades and all his other siblings got thrown-up. Later, Hades and his brothers defeated their father and the Titans. Hades and his siblings made Zeus their new king.
Greek Mythology
Mr. Noon's 6th grade class is learning about ancient Greek. Here is one of the many websites that you should encourage your class about. This website tells about 12 Olympian gods.
Here's one of the links The Olympians. I like this website because you get to learn about 12 Olympians.
Here is a little inside of Hades he is the ruler of the underworld. Hades ruled over the dead. Hades is the greedy god and didn't let anyone leave the underworld. Hades abducted his wife Persephone. he was the brother of Zues. Persephone was the daughter of Demeter. Here's a linkhttp://www.mythindex.com. Click on the H's and than click Hades.
Gods and Goddesses
-This website is about all of the gods and goddesses. I think it will teach you a lot about all the gods and goddesses, A-Z.
-This websites is about Odysseus, and the story about how he has to go to war (Trojan war) and how he doesn't want to go to war.
The Greek Goddess Aphrodite
Today I was reading about Greek Mythology. The Goddess I was reading about is the Goddess Aphrodite. She was born out of sea foam, so no one really knows where she belongs in the family tree for the gods.
Greek Mythology
In class we are learning about ancient Greece. I am reading about the goddess Athena. She is the goddess of strategy and crafts. This is a great website for looking up the Olmypians. It only shows the main gods and godesses, like Zeus, Hera, Posidon, and Hades.
link to Odyssey the short story
Today we are learning how to post links and websites and I've decided I wanted to post a link to a short story based on Homer's Odyssey. Ta-da! What do you think? I like it. It's a pretty blue.
Greek Gods
This site is about the Greek Gods. It's called The Olympians.
Greek mythology
I am learning about Greek mythology. The site I was on I found helpful so I'm going to tell you what it is. The site is The Olympians. It had all of the gods and goddesses. It was a really big help to find out ancient greek gods.
my special power
One time I was walking a friend to school and when she saw me she said "WHOA!! You must have gotten some sleep with that hair!"
I ignored her but I couldn't tune out her statement. The more I thought about it, the more I worried. Some people didn't remember their dreams, but now I couldn't even remember my morning? I kept trying to but I couldn't gather my thoughts enough to even see myself eat breakfast! I was so caught up when suddenly I realized I was alone.
I kept walking, thinking, "She is mad at me for not talking while I was so consumed. Ugh! Life certainly was rough." Enh, I'd explain later. I reached the hedge that surrounded the school and stepped back preparing for takeoff when suddenly I was plunged into a warm, moist, blue area and realized I was flying! Horrified but a little smug I saw the top of the school.
Today
Today, December 21, 2011, it is the last day for school this year. Next year it will be 2012, but school will start again on January 9. I am so excited about Christmas coming and the New Year. I can't wait, but I have to. It is hard to wait, but Christmas and the New Year will soon be here, and I'm prepared.
In school, we are going to have a party for everyone in my class. Now that will be very fun. We aren't going to do a gift swap, but we are going to do games and have refreshments.
The Party
Today, December 20,2011, Jenna and Kaylee were talking about a 30 minute party that even if you chose to stay inside from recess, you would get an hour long of a party. When they first mentioned the party, I got really excited and so happy. I signed up for bringing fruit for my class. Then the other things I could of signed up for are cookies/cupcakes, chips, juice, games, and bringing cups. I can't wait for tomorrow to come.
My Plant
At the beginning of the year, August 31, 2011, we planted pinto beans and corn to see if they would grow. We planted our seeds into cups, but first we put sand at the bottom of the cup, then we put the soil in, and watered the soil. Then after the soil sat for a little while, my class and I put our seeds in. After they started to grow, I looked at them and felt like I had to puke and scream. I had never really gotten used to looking at the plants, but I knew I had to.
Did you know that the outer layer will come off of the pinto beans? Well they do. It is very cool to look at and after all of the skin is off, the skin seems to disappear into the soil. I have tried to find the skin before, but I never succeeded.
My teacher had my class and I draw pictures of our beans and corn. My plants hadn't grown very much, but it still looked disgusting. Soon after, I got used to looking at my bean and corn plants. They started to grow very tall and they were very healthy. On Friday, December 16, 2011, I was looking at my plant, then my teacher said that after my class and I looked at our plant with the magic eye, we could throw them away. That is why I don't have my plant anymore, but once I threw my plant away, I found a bean pod on my sweater sleeve and I cracked it open. There was a little bean inside. Then I gave the bean to my friend Karalee.
Christmas concert
Today in school we had to perform two times. It was a concert for the upcoming holiday (Christmas). At school today first we performed for our parents, and then at 1pm the whole school did a performance (each grade). The little kids were so cute because they were dancing back and forth.
Christmas Concert
Today we had a Christmas concert, and every grade had to be in it. And every time a grade went up, I wanted it to go down. But since we were the last people to go I was okay. But our turn finally came and I was a little freaked out by the fact that we had to sing in front of the whole entire school. Our first song was One Love by Bob Marley. Our second was We wish you a Merry Christmas.
In our first song I had to play the ukulele. Playing the ukulele is actually really easy. Well if you know the notes. And in our second song I had to get o the bleachers and sing. I was standing next to my friend Shaylee and she kept on making me laugh. But I still managed to sing the song. And that's what happened at the Christmas concert, well at least to me.
The Library
Yesterday, November 30, 2011, my class went to the library so we could get books. Then we had to sit down and read quietly.
My friend Piper had checked out a book about Egyptian Mummies. It talked about the weighing of the heart. They were seeing if the heart weighed an even amount with a feather. Then the book talked about other weird stuff. So I just put the book down.
After reading that book, I wanted to get a nice, not shocking, book. Then I realized that the book I had wanted to read wasn't there. I had to find another story. It was hard. Eventually I managed to check out a book that I liked, and it was not the Egyptian Mummies book.
Piper and I both got a candy cane for sitting down and reading our books. It was fun and enjoyable. Next week, I hope to get the book I wanted to. So I am going to try to. That is my goal for next Wednesday.
Try to make fire!
Mr. Noon asked us, "If you had no home, no warm clothes what would you do to keep warm? You would have to build a fire." So we went out outside to get two sticks. When we got back everybody started to rub the sticks together. Some made their sticks warm, some made sparks, and some even POLISHED there sticks too. Well I got my whole stick polished. That was the end of my day.
Math class
Today in math class,
Today in math class we went over fractions and learned a little bit about circles and percent.
At the beginning our teacher started drawing 2 or 3 problems of fractions. He showed us how to add and multiply fractions.
Then after that we learned how to use a template to fill the circle with the percents on the paper. We had to line the dot up with the template and find the percent of whatever number was on the paper.
First we did a paper with about 5 problems. The first was two boxes with fractions in them. We had to add one and subtract the other. Then there was a big box with a circle and a box with information. We had to look in the box copy the info from there to the circle by filling it up with percents. It was very easy, so I moved on to the bottom two. Those were just more fraction problems but multiplication instead.
Then we got another paper with four more problems on there. It was a bunch of circles and stories. You had to round the number (for example:12.7 billion) up or down from a decimal to a normal number and that was your percent to put in the circle. If it all added up to 100 it was right. If it was too much or too little you had to change a number.
After you were done with those two papers you had to work on page 152 and down because we have to finish chapter 4 by the end of this week. I was very surprised because this math class was very quiet. Usually math is very loud and its very hard to concentrate even though sometimes I'm the problem too.
That was are math class on Monday, November 28, 2011.
10-12-11
Today on 10-12-11, I had a good day.
I walked to school. I put all my stuff away where it's supposed to go. I went to math class and one of the students did a presentation. She brought a martin. A martin is a type of animal. Her dad trapped it in a trap. It was just the skin and fur; the meat was all out. My math teacher, she told us about some other stuff like that. We are learning algebra.
When I went back to class, Mr.Noon, he read to us while we drew and ate our snacks. We are reading, Breaking Through. It's a really good book. It's about a Mexican family that was illegal in America, but now they're not because they have passports so they can go there to work and pick strawberries and other fruits. They are very poor and they only get $1 an hour. The younger boys get 85 cents. So the book is getting interesting.
After that we did paragraph edits. That's my best subject. After we did paragraph edits we went to library. We did "Count Dracula" papers for Halloween. Then, we checked out books. I got Coraline because we were doing book reports the other day and one of the students in my class did a report on Coraline and she made it sound really interesting.
When we got back from library, we did science. Mr. Noon showed us how to make a 10 page booklet from 3 papers. We are doing, Biomes. Me and two other students are partners. We are still on the first page, Tundras. After that we got ready for recess and played outside. Then we went to lunch. After that, we did book reports. They were very well presented. Then, we read our books while Mr. Noon went to get laptops for the class. Now I'm writing this!
That's how 10-12-11 went. :)
my life experience
I’m writing about the timeline of my life. Mr. Noon gave us an assignment to make pictures and write about them.
When I was four I fell down the stairs. How I fell was, my mom called me downstairs to clean something. I think she wanted me to clean the entry way. So I was walking down the stairs and I skipped a step and missed it. I started rolling down the stairs. And my mom came running. She wanted to see if was ok.
My next pictures about when I was five. I played soccer. It was my first year and like 15 min. into the game I scored a goal and everyone was cheering. Then 5 min. later my other teammate scored a goal.
Then in the winter I was five I started school. It was my first day of kindergarten. I thought school would be hard. But a couple days later I was like this is to easy for me so my mom didn’t even have to help me wit my homework.
Then when I was 6 my mom had my little brother Tré. His name is kind of hard to explain his name but I will explain it anyways. His real name is Lee but he’s the third Lee so we said lets use some Spanish so we counted up to three that would be Uno, dose, and tres, so we shortened it to Tré.
Now I’m in 6th grade now and I’m 11. We have been doing nothing but work this year. We have had art a couple times but that’s it. And now we're writing about this. 5th grade was a lot of fun but I think I like 6th grade better. This year could be fun.
Recess
At recess it is fun, but then is not fun when we have heavy snow. But then we also make new friends. Then it's real slippery outside. Snow is bad when we have big animals on our playground, like moose. Then we can not go outside.
You can sled on the hill with friends. Recess is boring sometimes, sometimes not. If you want air by yourself ,recess is the place you can do it at.
