the god of the sea

I think a really cool god is Poseidon. I think he's cool because he can control all water, fresh and salt. He was also the father of the hero, Thus. He was married to Amphitrite the daughter of a sea-nymph. But he is not always nice. In the story The Odyssey, Odysseus killed his son, so Poseidon tried to kill Odysseus.

greek gods

Today we are learning about Greek gods and how to use html tags to make words bold.

Right now I'm going through these bookmarks and I found this site that was really cool. It's a family tree of the gods. I found out a lot; like how the gods started with Chaos, god of nothingness. It is a really cool site. Check it out.

Egyptian culture

Today we learned about Egyptians' culture and art work. It said that their king could make a decision if there was going to be a flood or if the crops were going to be good. It was also said that the king could have more than one wife. Sometimes they even built their wife her very own Pyramid and tomb.

One day King Menes took over lower Egypt. He took both crowns as a symbol that meant that Egypt was united and became the world's first nation. Pretty soon after, the kings of the Old Kingdom were seen as living gods.

After a king died there was a ritual ceremony that they believed would send him to the afterlife. So after they were done with the ceremony they put his most precious artifacts with him and one of them was the Book of the Dead which they believed helped him find his way to the afterlife.

If he found his way to the afterlife he would be judged by the god Osiris. She prepared a ceremony called the weighing of the heart. She will weigh the heart and see if you have lived a full life or not. If you lived a full life you get

Rome

Today we watched a video about ancient Rome!
I am going to tell the story of Romulus and Remus in my own words.

Romulus and Remus were born with a father that was worried that they would steel the throne from him. So Romulus and Remus was ordered to be killed. They were drowned but a mother wolf saved them and nursed them until they were old enough to take care of themselves. When they were older, Romulus killed Remus. His own brother! So that self Romulus being the first king. They named the city Rome in his honor.

I think it was terrible how their father wanted to kill then just so they wouldn't take his throne. I also think it was horrid that Romulus killed his own brother so that he could take the throne! I thought it was amazing how he mother wolf took care of Romulus and Remus!

Harlem Globetroters :)

Today we had an assembly at our school, and at the assembly, one of the players from the Harlem Globetrotters was here. His name is Dizzy Grant. He was given this nickname because people say that when he dribbles the basketball it tends to make some people dizzy, so that is why they call him Dizzy Grant!

At the assembly Dizzy talked to us about the word C.H.E.E.R, and each letter stands for a certain word.

C means cooperation, because when you cooperate things are much easier!

H stand for healthy mind and body. Dizzy was telling us how that it is important to have a healthy mind and body because if yo don't you could get very sick and you would not be able to do the thing that you like to do, so it is very important to have a healthy mind and body.

E stand for enthusiastic. When you are doing something important it is always important to try your best and give 100%!!!

The second E in C.H.E.E.R means effort. Dizzy said that you should always make an effort to do your best in anything that you do, because when you make an effort you will eventually succeed!

And last the R stand for responsibility. It is always important to be responsible because when you are responsible people are able to trust you and that gives you a lot more freedom!

The Time Warp Trio

Today in class we watched a video called Time Warp Trio. The video was about the ancient Greek Olympics. The Olympics was a time where Sparta and Athens could compete without having a big war. And one of the rules are that if you lose a round then you die. Another rule is that girls were not allowed to participate in the Olympics. In the video there were two boys; one is Sam, and the other is Fred. Also one girl named Samantha has a book that can take you through time travel.

One of the boys, named Sam, made Fred fall while taking a picture and ended up spraining his arm so he did not get to play in the baseball game. Now they are all eating lunch at the diner and Sam is bragging about how he made the winning goal. So when Samantha gets up to go and get a drink, they start messing around with the time traveling book, and they just keep pushing all the buttons until they end up in Ancient Greece! And when they get there they end up being part of the Greek Olympics. So then Sam gets sent to a diner place outside to time warp and meets a the guy who is really supposed to be in the Olympics instead of Sam and Samantha. His name is Glottis.

Now Samantha is about to fight this really big guy named Simplex. And his weakness is seeing his own blood, so Sam gives some ketchup to Samantha so that when she is out there fighting, she can squirt some on him, and he will get scared and fall. When you fall that means you give up and lose. But soon Achilles realizes that it is not blood on his arm and goes back to fighting. While they are fighting Samantha's hat comes off and reveals that she is a girl!

Meanwhile Fred is back at the diner and Glottis is telling him how if he goes back an hour in time then none of it would ever happen. But he realizes that he would be giving up the time he made the winning score in the game. But he does it anyway, and then before he knew it, Sam and Samantha were back in the diner talking about the big game, except this time Sam was also talking about how he made some scores!

In the movie I learned that the reason they ever had the Greek Olympics is because it was a time were Sparta and Athens could compete without having a big war. Another thing I learned is the rules and penalties of the Greek Olympics, like girls were not allowed to compete in the Olympics because they thought that boys were better than girls (which is not true!!!). And that's mostly what I learned about the video.

The Time Warp Trio

Today in class we watched a show called the Time Warp Trio. In this episode, Samantha and Fred went back in time to the Greek Olympics.

They landed during a sport in which the competitors throw a heavy disc, and, well, they throw the disc and try to get it farther than their opponent.

After the first person threw, the second person was nowhere to be found. So the only "competitors" to be found were Samantha and Fred. With Fred having a broken arm, Samantha had to throw.
Apparently all three children play ultimate (Ultimate frisbee).

So when Samantha picked up the disc, it was obviously too heavy for her, so Fred handed her a lightweight frisbee and she threw it the farthest in Olympic history.

Then, in the other side of the galaxy, Sam (not Samantha) met the competitor that was missing in the first place. So while they were talking at the space diner, Sam noticed how a women near them pushed a button on a juke-box, and disappeared!

Having need to find his friends, Sam ran over to the time-machine-juke box and transported himself over to the Greek Olympics where Samantha and Fred were. Soon, the judges of the sports found out that Samantha was a girl (she had been wearing a hat, thus hiding her hair making her look like a boy).

The rules back then were that no girls could play in the Olympics. This being so, Samantha was scheduled to be thrown off a cliff, and killed. But, before Sam (back at the diner with his new friend the missing competitor) could leave with the time machine, he had to pay for his snack that he had. Having no Dracmas, the Greek currency, he had to pay with time. Real time. As in taking-an-hour-from-his-life. So he Sam gave an hour from his life that, if it didn't happen, Samantha and Fred wouldn't be in a situation where they were about to die. So the moment he did so, they all went back to the moment before there insane adventure began.

Greek Gods

There were many Greek Gods, but the mean two were Zeus and his wife Hera. They are really brother and sister, but back then it wasn't uncommon to marry your sister/brother. Hera and Zeus were the King and Queen of the gods.

There were 12 mean Greek Gods; their names were Zeus, Hera, Apollo, Poseidon, Hermes, Ares, Pan, Hades, Athena, Artimus, Aphrodite, and Demeter. They each were in charge of something. For instance Apollo was god of light. Aphrodite was the god of love and beauty. There is a lot more to know about the Greek Gods.

Ancient Greece

Greece is a much harder place to live than Egypt because the soil is not that good and there is sometimes not enough water to grow plants or food. Not a lot of people lived there until much later. There was some real settlement around 55,000 BC. That was 57,000 years ago! Wow! Greek History was divided into a Stone Age, a Bronze Age, and a Iron Age. One place to find info about Greece is http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/greeks/history/history.htm.

Another great place to go to get a lot of information go to http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/greeks/history/history.htm.

Odysseus the Greek Hero

I just read a short story about Odysseus and his big adventure.
Odysseus is a Greek hero that went through a lot just in a battle. There was some myths in there and the pictures were very funny.

If you want to go check, click on this http://www.mythweb.com/odyssey/

I think Odysseus is pretty cool because his story is very mythical and adventurous. I love adventure stories and I like mythical stories. I like to read about heroes and I now like to read about Greeks and Greece.

three paragargh thing we have to write what we did this week

On what we did this week we did some work and some more work. We also did homework, not that much though. It was a fun this week (some week). We had indoor recess (also fun (some fun)). I played on computers all 30 minutes (45 min.).

All I did this week at home this very week of all the weeks was sleep, eat, school, eat & sleep. Like all the other weeks this was the most fun of all, a substitute came into our class. He was okay, fine, defined & great. He was a nice guy.

Today was a great day. It was also kind of short today. I got my work done which is great. To end this short paragraph I will say today is over bye.

Barry Sanders The Greatest Running Back Of ALL Time

YOUR BOY, SUPER MAN, IS IN THE BUILDING!!

Barry Sanders is my favorite running back ever. He was the first round pick in 1989 for the Detroit Lions. He was the (MVP) MOST VALUABLE PLAYER in 1997. He had the hottest visor; it was a amber color, but with more orange than red in it, though. He was really fast and quick. He be always juking people out of their pants and make them fall and miss the tackle. My brothers say Walter Payton is, but he died. So how could he be better than BARRY SANDERS?

Walter Payton was just strong, and if he broke free, he'd be gone. But all he was was strong. Barry Sanders is all that. I play with him in video games. I be running over people and be getting game breakers and then I be really running people over.

I be do in massive moves, like 360 jump with the ball going through the legs, then breaking tackles against the wall, and getting interceptions with Ronnie Lott, but that's a different story.

I'M OUT!!!

Hitler Youth

Hitler did a Hitler Youth camp. He would train kids age 12 and older. Their symbol was the "S." It means the symbol of victory. I think Hitler was a cruel person. But now I know how much more evil a person can be.

Hitler said that he needed fearless kids. Hitler started this campaign in 1939-1945, well something like that. But that is a long time of torture. if you want to learn more click this:

The Holocaust

The Holocaust (World War II) was a horrible war in 1943-1948. That war lasted five years, and if you don't already know, it was when the Nazis took over Denmark and some o†her places. They would find all the Jews in schools and on trains and other places and take them to work camps. Then when the people were not needed any more, they were killed. They were put in gas chambers and were shot and killed other ways I don't want to name.

But there was a secret group of people called the Resistance who would secretly fight the Nazis. For example, when Jews were being sneaked out of Denmark to Sweden, the Nazis started to notice, so they would train dogs and have them sniff out where people were hiding on the boats. So the doctors and scientists made a powder that was made of dry rabbit blood and cocaine and when the dogs would sniff it, their scent wouldn't work for a short amount of time. After that, almost every captain would have one.

See photos of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.

The Occupation of Denmark

Mr. Noon gave us a book to read called Number The Stars, about 3 weeks ago. It was about a girl named Annemarie that lives in Denmark. She learns that the German soldiers are taking Jewish people from their homes. Her mom tries to help their neighbors from Germans.

I read an article about the occupation of Denmark. It happened in April 9,1940. In the article it said that a group of Danish soldiers were guarding their post and that two of them died that day. Once Denmark surrendered that day the Germans were protected from a British invasion. Germans were almost on every corner of Denmark.

This is the website web site for the article.

Samuel Hiller and Number the Stars.

Samuel Hiller was a boy that was born just before the holocaust. He was one of the 1.5 million children that lived in Cracow, Poland. His mother one day got word that the Germans where going to send all the Jews in the ghetto to the death camp. He and his mom managed to get out of the Ghetto, but not his dad. His mom set up a Christan woman to take care of her two year old son, Samuel. She sometimes would come out of hiding to come and see him; but one day a German noticed that she was a Jew and they killed her in the street. His dad was sent to a death camp and died in the death camp in 1944.

We just finished a book called Number the Stars. It was about the holocaust. But the people weren't real people from the past. I loved that book. It was very good and exciting. This book is about a family of four, and their best friends where Jews, so they helped the family to Sweden. I would say I think everyone should read this book. It is by Lois Lowery. She is a very good author. I would recommend this book to everyone over the age of ten.

World War 2

Me and my class read Number the Stars, and I thought it was interesting. I also read about the resistance. I thought the article was interesting, too, because I didn't know the Resistance helped a lot, until I read Number the Stars and the article.

Number the Stars was written by Lois Lowry. It started when Annemarie and Ellen were practicing running. When Kirsti said," Why didn't you wait for me?" 2 German army men stopped them.

You have to read the book to find out what happened. I will tell you a little. Nearly 7000 Jewish people went to Sweden. One fourth or less of the Jews got killed. The rest were so lucky because All the Jewish people didn't get killed. If you were a Jewish person you would want to go to Sweden too. If you were not a Jewish person you would be safe.

THE DEATH OF HITLER AND HIS WIFE

SUPER MAN is back with some history about Nazis and Hitler's death, and his wife's death. Hitler's death went like this: First he went to his last conference then he had his last lunch, then he talked to his generals, then he and his wife went into their personal quarters and a few moments later... his generals heard a gunshot and they came into the room, and there was blood dripping from his right temple, and his wife died because of poison.

I am reading a book called Number The Stars. The book was about the Nazi's taking the Danish jews to prison and then if they caught someone helping the jews escape, they would be they shot and they would put them gas chambers and let them die but I thought the story was okay but it was a little sloooow. But it kinda speed up a bit at the end. The slooow part was that all the traveling,t he letters and the conversations "like it's "coffee" and Why are you Lying? The overall of the book was okay.

EVER HEARD OF BACON CLOCK

Ever heard of a bacon clock? Well I have. Haven't you? Click this link - http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/Stories/MoreStories/New-alarm-clock.

Read this story about a kid that designed a clock without a alarm; instead he used the aroma of bacon.

A Long Time Ago

A long time ago many different people lived on earth. First there was dinosaurs, then there was caveman, then there was normal people who took charge in the environment. Many people invented different stuff that we all use today. All kinds of different people live in different parts of the world.

I would like to talk about someone who really made a difference in the world, Martin Luther King Jr. He didn't like what was going on, so he changed everything for everyone. All the white people and all the black people were not treated equally.

White people were treated much better than black people, White and black people went to different schools, and everything was all wrong. Martin Luther King did not like it, so he made a speech that changed the world. In Martin Luther King's speech he said, "My dream is for my kids to live in a world where they are not judged by the color of there skin but by the content of their character."

Many people today are still judged by there color of there skin but finally, the world has changed.

My Freakish Pet

My first pet is a dog named Bingo. I was about six when I got him, and I didn't name him!!! My dog is a male miniature schnauzer.

My dog ran away about twenty times. One time I thought he ran away on the last day before I went to my vacation, but he was in the house.

He is a nice dog, but he is not nice to kids. I taught my dog to sit and come. My dog is my favorite and my first pet. I had other pets ahead of him, but he is the best. I've had him for about nine years now; I wonder how much is that for dog years?

Jessie James the Outlaw!!!

My dad was watching a movie called Jessie James. It looked interesting, so I watched it. That's why i am writing about it.

Jessie James Wanted dead or alive!!! Jessie James robs trains and banks. He killed a lot of people. He doesn't have a heart. Well, he does, but only to his wife and 2 kids.

There was this guy named Bob whose brother was in the gang with Jessie James. Bob got his brother to tell Jessie that this guy that he knew should be in the gang. Jessie James said yes. Bob is the guy who killed Jessie James. Bob killed Jessie James right in front of his 2 kids.

Bob was to proud of himself. He had a little play that was about him killing Jessie James. Bob was Bob in the play, his brother was Jessie James, and the wife of Jessie James was a girl, but I don't know her name (she was just a town's girl I think).

6:00 Scary Story

I am going to tell all about a scary story that I think actually happened. A while ago there was a mass murderer in our town that every night at 6:00 he would kill someone. They were told to lock their doors and windows and no matter who knocks at their door do not let them in! Everyone was afraid to get killed so they listened and locked their doors. They were all afraid to die so they went to sleep before 6:00.

One night they locked their doors, when a little girl was playing at the park. She lost track of time and was out past 6:00, it was more like 6:15. She ran to her house, her doors were locked so she started beating on the door, saying, "Mommy, mommy, let me in, let me in mommy" Her mom was already asleep and she thought her daughter was in bed sleeping.

When the mom woke up the next morning she looked in her daughters room and she wasn't there. Franticlaly her mom ran outside. She happened to glance at her tree in the front yard. She thought that she saw something so she looked back. There she saw her daughter hanging from the tree and on the tree in blood it said "mommy why didn't you let me in?"

Rome

In Italy, the capital Rome began around 753 B.C. There is a legend that tells about these two twins Romulus and Remus, that were taken from their mother and were ordered to be drowned in the Tiber River. According to the legend the twins were saved and raised by a mother wolf. When they were older, they built a city, then ended up having to battle each other.

Ancient Rome

Yesterday I read an article called the City of Rome.

This article is about Rome. Rome is the capital city of Italy.

First I was reading about these two twin guys named Romulus and Remus. Those twin guys were left by their mom in the River Tiber to starve there. Years later Mars (the Roman god of war) found them, and told them to build a city where they've been found. Then the two boys built the city and ended up fighting with each other. When Romulus won the fight, he then named the city called the "City of Rome".

Rome was ruled by kings. Sometimes kings are very cruel, but the last king, Tarquin the proud, was so overthrown. Rome then became a republic for the next 400 years.

In 55bc, Julius Caesar conquered France, at the time country was called Gaul. But most Romans called it Gallia. In 54bc to 55bc the warriors and the rotten British made his army to give up and return to Gallia.

The amazing ROME

For several years we have learned about Rome, but Rome's power did not begin until the time of Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt.

Rome was made when the king's niece gave birth to twins, Romulus and Remus. The king was afraid that when they got older they would take over his throne, so he sent them to be drowned in a river, but they were saved by a mother wolf; over time till they were found.

The priests were trying to figure out who would be king first. Then they had a plan. They placed both boys on a hill; when birds flew over Romulus they knew he would be king. Furious, Remus demanded a fight to the death against his brother. They fought with the aggression they saw their mother wolf fought with.

Roman fact

The Roman Empire was connected by a huge system of roads and walls; also each town had a system of sewers, running water, and water supply. At the center of each town or city they had shops, temples, and government buildings. An army of men defended the city state or where the Empire was. The army legions were about 5,000 men, but they were highly armed with armor, shield, and swords. Around 200 A.D, Ancient Rome covered about 2.5 million square miles.

ROMAN ART

In this article that I read was about Roman art. In 500 BC the Romans liked to make art. And their favorite was making statues that looked like real people.

the gladiators

I am going to talk about the gladiators and how the Romans watched them fight.

The first gladiators that fought were in 264 B.C. for a funeral. The gladiators at first fought in a large open area like a field or a beach.

The fighting got popular, and more popular, and finally they had them every week. Then the Romans built an arena and a major arena called the coliseum. it was made of stone and was 3 stories high. the bottom part was filled with sand and was were the gladiators fought each other. the rest was where people sat. The basement held animals that they starved and unleashed them on the gladiators. the gladiators were usually slaves and convicted people who fought. They had single class fights in the morning then lunch, then mixed fights. Visit gladitorial games.

The Romans

  1. What the Romans would use for gear for battles was some armor that was metal.
  2. There also was the shield that was round to go around the person. And it was made of either plywood or leather. And it was colored red, Brown, or beige.
  3. Also the soldier used some leather on the sandals and they had to wear them all year long. They also got a hobnails to let them last longer.
  4. The Romans would use something called a bulla. It was a lucky charm that some Romans used.
