A Creepy Halloween

Yesterday was Halloween. I was big bird. We started trick or treating at 6:42 PM to 7:42 PM. When I went to my first house I got like 3 pieces of candy. There were ten houses in a row, so I walked to all the houses with my step sister. Just to go to those 2 houses I got 38 pieces of candy. I almost caught frostbite on my legs.

The second house was scary. There was toilet paper that had fake blood on it. When I waked in to the entryway, by the way, it said come in and trick or treat. This woman jumped out and said, "BOO!" I jumped and fell in the snow.

P.S. I didn't go all the way in their house.

The third house I went to had a blown up Tigger that was a vampire. It was a very nice house. After my sister and I left they turned off their porch light. When we walked farther there was another house that had a spider web on the door. The guy said, "Your costume is the best yet."

The fourth one was the coolest yet, because when I walked up up and said, "Trick or treat," this girl walked out and she was a Barbie. I was shocked. she had a Barbie outfit on. She was like 11.

The fifth house I went to had eight kids rushing for the door. It was so funny. They were handing out hot chocolate. My hands were frozen by then.

But I had a really, really fun time trick or treating.

It got special treatment, and had to get a fake leg. To make it worse it had cubs. It got medivaced to many hospitals. It was about two days, and they figured out it had cubs.

My Awesome Parties For No Reason (Except This Week)

This week the 23rd of April I am having my 12th birthday party! It s going to be so awesome! We are going to have ice cream cake, Itunes gift cards as prizes, and some pretty crazy games. One of the games is for Icee. She, or he, loves Giraffes and we have a game where we get a Giraffe mask and then wear it around the neighborhood yelling "I'M A GIRAFFE!"

The other game is hide and seek in the dark. Jenna and I invented that game. It is so awesome. Dianna, Jenna, and Isabella were once playing that game and then I scared Dianna so bad!

Sometime... Maybe all the time I have parties for no reason but this weekend were going to actually have a party for a reason. I don't really know what I'm going to get for my birthday, and I don't really know what I want. Bella asked me that question and I just named her a whole bunch of thing that were probably useful.

I think that I need some advice for some party games to play. I think that we need some fun and not have to be super bored. If one of my parties were boring I would DIE.

I for my party this Friday, I think I'm going to have a dance party theme because Dianna, had basketball as her theme for her party. My mom bought 'Dance Party' and it's going to be AWESOME! I don't know very much about that game, but I do know that you have to dance.

I'm going to have a party this weekend. It's going to have games and dance party. This week my party is actually going to be for a reason.

Calvin the right whale

Today I read a story about right whales.

In 1992 a right whale was hit and killed by a passing ship now the government has a law about if your in an area where right whales are you have to slow down.

Researchers have tagged a baby right whale and named it Calvin. They have tracked the right whale and seen where it goes and what it's adventures are. One time Calvin got stuck in a net and was lucky to get out... most right whales die from caring around a fishing net.

The funny thing about it is that they found out that Calvin was a girl but chose to keep the name because it fit the right whale.

The earthquake that hit Haiti

On January the 12th, Haiti was struck my an earthquake that was magnitude 7. The International Red Cross estimates that a third of Haiti's citizens will need special aid. The earthquake destroyed many houses, schools, hospitals, and the national palace of Port-au-Prince. Now, the city is without electricity or phone service.

People are very sad that this has happened and many of people have been injured. With lots of hope, those people will will get new homes. To read more about this tragic event, go to http://kidsblogs.nationalgeographic.com/kidsnews/2010/01/haiti-devastate....

three paragargh thing we have to write what we did this week

On what we did this week we did some work and some more work. We also did homework, not that much though. It was a fun this week (some week). We had indoor recess (also fun (some fun)). I played on computers all 30 minutes (45 min.).

All I did this week at home this very week of all the weeks was sleep, eat, school, eat & sleep. Like all the other weeks this was the most fun of all, a substitute came into our class. He was okay, fine, defined & great. He was a nice guy.

Today was a great day. It was also kind of short today. I got my work done which is great. To end this short paragraph I will say today is over bye.

Avalanche

For an avalanche to happen, the hill has to be 25 degrees. A clump of snow can cause a avalanche to happen. When an avalanche is happening, it goes 100-130 kilometers per hour. When a skier is crisscrossing on the hill, it can cause the snow to start falling.

Mr. Adams is a snow and avalanche scientist at Montana State University. He spends a lot of time on mountains studying avalanches and telling the speed.

I have always thought that an avalanche was a little scary because snow is cold and an avalanche is like a herd of 20,000 elephants speeding downhill.

Bottled Water

A bottle of water uses a lot of fossil fuels and may pollute the environment. When 29 billion Americans buy more bottled water then any other nation in the world. We are adding 29 billion bottled waters to the problem. It is a lot better to drink water from a faucet and not from bottled waters. It causes a lot of pollution to the planet. Some people don't know the problems drinking out of a bottles causes so they do it anyway.

To improve the pollution from drinking water out of a bottle, you can recycle them. They can be turned into a rug or something useful someone can use. When you recycle one plastic bottle, it can save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb.

EVER HEARD OF BACON CLOCK

Ever heard of a bacon clock? Well I have. Haven't you? Click this link - http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/Stories/MoreStories/New-alarm-clock.

Read this story about a kid that designed a clock without a alarm; instead he used the aroma of bacon.

About Being A Fly On The Wall

I like being a fly on the wall because I notice things that I never noticed before. On the first fly on the wall day, I was downstairs and it was loud and quiet at the same time. Mrs. Brown's class was a little loud but the hallway outside of her class was quiet.

When I was upstairs, I was right next to the library and across from the elevator. Some same/same stuff that I noticed: both downstairs and upstairs are loud and quiet at the same time. But they were very different, too.

The last time I was a fly on the wall, I was right across from Mr. Keener's classroom which was across from the library, so I haven't moved that much. A lot happened the last time, because Mr. Keener's class was doing a oral book report so it was interesting to listen to.

A women asked me what I was doing because she saw my other classmates around the lobby I guess.

I really enjoyed being a fly on the wall and I hope I notice more stuff.

potato sales

Last week we sold potatoes to some of the teachers in the school. Each potato was $5 and we had a lot of fun making them. I was one of the cooks for the week and we made over $100. What we did was cook the potato and put the other foods on the potato that the person ordered. I had a lot of fun and we had a lot of happy costumers.

Jenna is the class treasurer and she made a big deal with Mrs. Laiti. We gave her the leftovers and we got about $25 from it. woohoo!

The Six foot long Python

According to "Frightful Animals," in National Geographic, the blood python is very strong. Blood python is six feet long. The blood python wraps around its prey till its prey stops breathing. Larger blood pythons eat deer and sheep.

The blood python does not use venom to kill its prey. I thought all snakes used venom to kill their prey. Instead they squeeze them to death, then eats them whole. That's crazy because I always saw different type of snakes kill their prey with venom.

I learned a lot about this snake. I never heard about a snake 6 ft long. I heard of 4 foot, or less, but 6 foot is between them all. This snake is the weirdest I have heard. This is the only snake I know that doesn't use its venom in its fangs, but squeezes them to death.

My Freakish Pet

My first pet is a dog named Bingo. I was about six when I got him, and I didn't name him!!! My dog is a male miniature schnauzer.

My dog ran away about twenty times. One time I thought he ran away on the last day before I went to my vacation, but he was in the house.

He is a nice dog, but he is not nice to kids. I taught my dog to sit and come. My dog is my favorite and my first pet. I had other pets ahead of him, but he is the best. I've had him for about nine years now; I wonder how much is that for dog years?

Barack Obama

Hi my name is Makenzie. I am gonna tell you about Barack Obama. I voted for him. I voted for him because I think he would be a great president. I also thought it would be cool to have the first African American president. So far, he has been a very awesome president. He is VERY good at making speeches.

Today in class, we watched a recording of one of his latest speeches about school. He talked about good education. One of the things he said is the you shouldn't drop out of school. He said to not think that you can drop out of school and drop into a good job. I totally agree with him about that.

oooooooopppss!

I am going to tell you about an injury. Well, first of all, it took place at my dad's job site, he is a carpenter. My dad is building a huge garage for his friend. Anyway I was trying to get up to the second story without the stairs. So I tried to get up, and I fell and a nail got stuck in my leg! I did not feel a lot of pain but there was some blood oozing out of my leg. My dad didn't care because I kinda deserved it; I broke one of his tools. So that is what happened to me.

Swine Flu

Hi this is Bluepandaspy telling you about the big hit of the nation. It is swine flu. Swine flu is very contageous, and can kill you. One of my friends just recently got diagnosed with swine flu, and he spread it to his mom and brother. That goes to show you that it spreads really fast. He didn't come to school for a whole week.

His friends got really worried and then he came back and had a lot of fun. And so that tells you to wash your hands and be safe.

The Man Who Dropped The Ring

One day I was walking on the Fairbanks Bridge but when I was walking I saw a man proposing to a girl. After 30 seconds of watching, the ring slipped out of his hand. He was trying to catch it but it fell into a drain hole. He tried getting it out of the drain hole but he couldn't get it out. He waved his hands looking at me for some help. He said, "I can't get the ring out of the hole!"

After he was done talking, I lent him some tweezers. When I got over there the ring was barely on the edge of a little hole that was in the drain. After one minute of trying he nudged it and it fell.

The man jumped for the ring right after it fell. He dove 50 feet straight into the water for the ring. It must be crazy for a man to jump 50 feet into the river with a nice suit on, I thought. Then the girl decided to go in after it, too. I said, "No!" but she jumped for it also. When I got to the edge of the bridge I heard her screaming all the way down until she hit the water.

SHRIMP DISASTER

One sunny evening, with a smile on her face, Nany Granny (or Abigail Cathrine Richerdson - but no one called her that) was waiting for the Shay girls, Carly and Brandi, so they could watch her pets while she went out for dinner. Her pets were Taco, her chihuahua, and her three cats, Mr. Mitts, Fatso, and Stripes. When the girls arrived they had an argument about how much they were going to get paid, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5... 20," said Nany Granny and the girls all together.

"Fine lets leave it at that price," said Nany Granny.

"Deal," said Carly.

When Nany Granny finally was able to leave she walked down the stairs with her tiny toes and her purse. When she entered the car she turned it on and started to drive away very slowly. When she looked back she couldn't believe her eyes. The girls actually went inside the house. Normally they can't stand the smell of old people. Normally they only go inside if they need to get something for one of the pets, or if they have to go to the bathroom. They probably realized that she scented her house to make it smell like flowers.

Warmer in Fairbanks

You've might of heard my story "Fairbanks at 40-" but now Fairbanks is much warmer. It's much much much warmer than it has been for the last couple weeks. Some poeple that live in the lower states think that 10- is cold; well they haven't been to Alaska. We are finally able to go outside for recces because it is now about 20 above and there's a rumor going around that it should get to be around 50 above.

Smart Animals

"Animal Smarts," by Leslie Hall, is about how people found out how smart animals are. Some animals use tools to get bugs out of the ground. Dart frogs are really good at remembering things. They can remember where all their tadpools are and they can have about 30. Meerkats can make sounds that mean different things. A border collie learnd 340 words. All my border collie can do is sit, and know how to open the gate.

Some animals are so smart that they can trick humans. Next time you think an animal is dumb, think a little.

Fairbanks at -40 below

For the last two weeks we have been having some cold days here. There's fog, icy roads, inside recess (for all the kids), And it's sometimes impossible to go anywhere. I've been thinking that it needs to get warmer.

I have been wanting to go outside for like ever but it's way too cold. My mom she wishes she didn't have to go to work because of how cold it is, but she has to. It is getting warmer but it needs to go back to above temps.

For inside recess me and some other kids from around the school have been going to the gym to play 3 team soccer. So many kids come in that each team has to have like 20 kids on each team. Most of the time i'm the goalie because I can use my hands too, not just my feet.

In the morning when I come into school and I look out the window I can't she some of the play equipment because of all the fog, but I can see some of it, but not that much. Every time I talk to my mom about the weather she always says IT NEEDS TO GET WARMER! I totally agree with hers. Hope your January is nice and warm.

40 BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god it is 40 degrees below zero and it is cold! O.k. it is really only 35 below zero, but it is still cold. well it is funny to hear people from Texas say it is cold at 40 above zero because they could be here at 35 or 40 below zero. Not only is it cold but it is foggy too. One thing I like about the cold is that we do not have to go out.

-67˚F!

If you don't live in alaska & you think that 0˚F is really cold then you have no Idea. Compared to Alaska that is extra warm. At least in the winter. I will tell you how cold it is now, then I will tell you how cold it was 5 days ago.

On January 1, New Years Day, it was -67˚F! Image looking outside and seeing nothing but white except your pot outside the window. Well that is what happened to me on New Years Day. That day a friend of my brother's called and I picked up the phone. He yelled, "It's minus 67˚F!" Then he hung up.

When my brother finally got off the computer we had to go bring the trash down and we went outside and we took the trash to the street. When we were done and got inside it was so cold that I got back in sniffing and we were only out there for like 30 seconds!

Today it is about -32˚F. On days that are colder than -20˚F, we stay inside and go to the gym or stay in the classroom for recess.

I went to gym. In gym we played soccer, my favorite sport. In the classroom (I'm guessing this is what happened because it normally happens) people used these [blocks] shapes, or the computer, or people draw. No matter which one you pick it was pretty fun.

Unfair in Softball

Softball
by Abigail

Once I was playing Softball and I was playing against a Laurel team. We were on the field trying to get them out. They were headed for third base. I threw the ball there and our whole team thought I got them out but the other team said we didn't. We worked it out and called it a tie. I wish we still could have redone the game. A couple of years ago I played for there team. That year we didn't win a lot of games.

Hockey Team Logos

This is a another answer from Spin The Globe where kids are asking us questions from Australia. http://spintheglobe.wikispaces.com/Sports

There are pictures of the team logos on the web site above.

Are these all the Alaskan hockey teams?
Answer: No, not even one of those hockey teams are Alaskan. Its amazing because Alaska is such a big hockey state that we don't even have one of those teams. Those teams are all professional and we don’t have a professional team here except for a arena football team that plays in Anchorage.

my answer

This is a answer to a question from our other web site that we have at www.spintheglobe.wikispaces.com, and the kids asking the question are from Australia.

What are some spectator sports:
Answer: Yes there is, One of the really big spectator sports is Hockey. Hockey is one of biggest sports in Alaska. It isn’t the state sport, but I think it should be because it is way bigger then Dog mushing and it is a way bigger spectator sport.
