Weather problems
In winter it is hard because sometimes your pipes in your house can freeze and then you have to fix them. Then one time my dad had to stay up for two days trying to fix the pipes, and he was so tired.
After winter is over my dad's lawn becomes a swamp because the ground is low in our backyard, so all the ice that melts in my neighbor's lawn goes into my dad's because the ground is low. So we have to wear rain boots when we go into our backyard in the summer. Then all the water dries up after like a month.
Sometimes our house runs out of fuel and we start freezing. But we are lucky because we live right by a gas station. But we only get five gallons. Then like a week later it happens all over again. So my dad has to call the fuel place to deliver a lot of fuel so then it last for a while.
Poor Plant!
At the beginning of the year we planted pinto beans and popcorn seeds to see if they would grow. The first thing we did was we got a wet paper towel and put the seeds inside the middle of it, and put it in a plastic bag. Then the next day we looked at them and they were starting to grow roots. We did this for a while and eventually we put the plants in cups. We watered them for about a month but gradually I kept forgetting to water mine and it began to die.
Then today we took the plants out of the cups and looked at them very carefully through the magic eye lenses. Surprisingly the roots were really tiny and the plants were tall.
Taking Apart Plants
Today we took apart plants and we had a fun time doing it. My plant was dead, but I got 2 plants because someone was not here. M plant was a red, green, white color. My friend's plant was green and still alive. I was kind of shocked because it was still alive. I also saw a bean pod, and it was really cool. I wanted to eat it but first prepare it and stuff. My corn was still small though. I kind of took it apart, but the roots were shaped like a cup because it was in a cup, and it was very cool. So I am going to go home and tell my parents what we did with the plants today, and they will be so proud of me.
lego mars rover
When I woke up on a Saturday I hid to the living room to get breakfast. Today I wanted to think of a new Lego creation.
When it it was 11 clock I had a new idea for a Lego creation. Today I was going to build a Mars Rover. It's a track rover. It will have two tracks, six robot arms, two auction tanks, and a Lego person who is controlling it.
It will take five days, so first I make the two tracks and make the robot arms, make the three Satellites, and I'm still finding out how to make 1 inch room. So maybe in an few days I'm going to finish the Lego Mars Rover.
comparing Deserts and Rain forests
Desert and rain forest are ecosystems. An ecosystem is a place where living things have a particular climate. Desert and rain forest have a little in common.
A rain forest climate is warm and rainy. The location of a rain forest is close to the equator. The vegetation is moss, grass, ferns, trees and other earthly plants. The animals of a rain forest include squirrels and monkeys.
A desert climate is dry, and very little rain. The temperature is about 43.5 to 49 C; the cold temperature is -2 to 4 C. In the summer it is about 21 to 26 C a year. The vegetation is cactus, tumbleweeds, barrel cactus, brittle bush.
A desert and a rain forest have very little in common. A rain forest has lots of rain and a desert has very little rain. Also a desert has very dry land and poor soil. But a rain forest has very wet land and rich soil.
comparing ecosystems
Tundra and taigas are ecosystems. An ecosystem is a living and non-living thing in an area interacting with each other. Tundra and taigas have some things in common.
The climate in a tundra is mainly very cold. It is cold because it is cold in the far northern regions, and tundra is located in the far northern regions. In a tundra they have lots of plants, but you have to remember its very cold. So it is probably hard for a plant to interact with the coldness. The animals that live there are caribou, musk-oxen, Wolves, wolverines, arctic foxes, and polar bears. Those are the predators.
In taigas the climate is also very cold. The location is in the northern hemisphere. The plants the plants that are there are more like, trees, lichens and mosses. Lastly the animals that live there are rodents, foxes, wolves, and ravens.
In tundra and taigas they have some things in common like; they are both cold and theyr'e both in the north. Lastly they both have short summers.
TIME for kids
You guys have probably heard of Time for Kids. Well, if you haven't it's a kid's version of TIME magazine. I'm going to write about an article in it that I think was an important article. Should kids be allowed on social networking sites? I think they should be allowed on some - not Facebook or Twitter - but child appropriate networking sites. What do you think?
My big test
A long time ago in 4th grade, I was going to take a test. It was a science test. My teacher gave me a study guide and told me to study hard. The next day, I came unprepared for the test but when I took the test, I got an A plus.
Chipmunk
In a deciduous forest there are a lot animals. But chipmunks, you can find chipmunks in the eastern United States. Chipmunks eat plants, nuts or seeds, insects, and mushrooms. The predator that chases after them will be hawks, foxes, raccoons, weasels, snakes, and cats. Every day the chipmunks try to find food for the winter, so when it gets cold they have food. But when they search for food, they make sure they wont be eaten.
When it’s day time the chipmunk comes out. They find food, then they wake up. They keep doing the some thing every day till it's winter, then stay inside the house till spring, summer, and fall. After they do this every day, finding food, then not finding food, then chipmunks have kids, and they do the same thing as their parents.
Also chipmunks defend their burrow for there lives when the little chipmunk is one when his dad and mom are 8 year old. That's when he takes care of his own sister and brother. So when the chipmunk's parents die, the oldest takes care them till the next oldest.
A Guppie's place in the food chain (fiction/informational)
Hi I’m a Guppy. I live in lake Lanier. I’m a very small fish at the bottom of the food chain. It’s really annoying how other animals think I’m just a runt of a fish who’s only purpose is to be eaten.
Unlike the animals who are “higher up in the food chain,” I only have to things on the menu algae and dead bugs, YUCK! And you think it’s annoying when your mom says “clean your plate.” But my kind are constantly being feasted upon. It’s terrible. I (constantly) have to stay under the dock at all times.
One time my friends and I decided to go on an adventure. The moment we came out from under the dock we were charged at by a very large trout. luckily I have only one friend who’s not a guppy. He’s a brim. They have very spiny fins. So when he heard my scream of terror he swam right in front of me. The trout quickly came to a halt, afraid of being poked.
I thanked my friend and swam right back to the dock. When I got home my mom yelled at me and said, “ I thought I told you to stay under the dock at all times and only eat algae stuck to the dock and also onl-.” At that point I just went up to my room knowing this nagging would go on for a while. But I learned my lesson about leaving the dock.
Space Waste
Right now at this vary moment garbage is floating in our space that surrounds are Earth is causing danger to satellites,& other stuff up there is a ring of trash around us right now and it is hurting our Earth and we need to help it. You just can't sit there and not feel sorry for our Earth. You kinda have to because you helped them destroy our Earth. Did you know that over 100,000 tool bags trying to fix the international space station, we are losing the battle here, like shoot lasers at litter, except gravity would pull it back to us. Just start by doing the little things in life, like recycle and stop polluting the water we eat & drink from. Every bit counts.
Space Trashcan
Right now as I am typing there is space garbage floating around causing satellites & astronauts danger. Rockets, broken satellites, astronauts' gloves, and other junk is polluting space. There is a ring of space trash surrounding Earth. Sometimes, junk falls from outer space into Earth and, one time it hit someone. Once, part of a Russian rocket fell back to Earth. Scientists are thinking of fixing this problem.
One idea is to shoot lasers at litter. Except, gravity would pull it back. Another idea is that space garbage trucks would have a net, catch the garbage in the net, then dump it in Earth's atmosphere. But it will burn up before it reaches the ground. We are still finding a way to get rid of this pollution.
Even today there is more than 300,000 pieces of litter cluttering space! Some interesting facts is that astronaut, Edward White, lost his glove in space and it sped around Earth at 28 thousand kilometers per hour before burning up! Also, the 1958 Vanguard 1 satellite is still orbiting Earth as the oldest piece of space junk. I think we need to be a bit more careful.
Space Junk
I read three articles on space junk and they all talk about different things. I read all National Geographic articles one was on cleaning it up the other were almost the same. The thing is that two of the three both talked about Edward White losing his glove.but the clean up one talked about how they track trash 4 cm in diameter and bigger and now that realized another one also mentioned that. but there saying to send up a ship with a jaw and eat the trash and shoot it into our atmosphere and let it burn. I also think that is a good idea. But all I now is that we got to clean it up before it becomes a big problem and it is also dangorus if there is a colistion between two space junk item.
space junk
I read an article about space junk. Actually 2 articles.
The first 1 was the space junk clean up 1 and it told me about how space junk is bad. It's bad because it's just going to continue to grow. The article also said that after 2055 the space junk will increase.
The second 1 told me about how much space junk there is. The oldest known space junk is the Vangaurd 1. It was in space from 1958. That's a long time. Both of the articles said space junk is a problem.
More about space junk
There are a lot of junk just floating around space. Broken satellites, destroyed rocket bodies, human waste, and a glove that was left behind by astronaut ED White during his spacewalk in 1965. I think that it is cool how many random things are floating around space. But I wonder how all that trash got in space. Did it fall out of a satellite or something? Did it float away from someone? Maybe you can help me by answering those questions if you know the answers!
Space junk :(
On March 12,2009 the space station had been threatened by a piece of space junk that had been traveling at about 17,500 miles per hour.
Outer Space: Outer Trash
Today I read two articles about space junk. Lemme tell ya: It's reeeeeally hard to rid of. Space junk mostly is created when rockets blow up, or when an existing piece of junk crashes into a fully-functional sattelite, thus smashing into a zillion pieces. Computers back on Earth can track where most of this trash is. But only the clutter that is larger that, say, the size of a grapefruit. The other ka-jillion pieces...well.... we can only hope they won't hurt any astronauts.
On average, one piece of space junk falls from space into Earth's atmosphere per-day. One time, a piece even hit a person on the head, but she was not harmed.
Space junk can consist of anything! From gloves, to tool bags, to chips of paint! And the small things, like chips of paint and just tiny pieces of metal, believe it or not, can be the more life threatening.
When some astronauts are in a rocket, and a piece (miniature) of metal comes flying their way, it could tear a colassal hole right in the rocket, costing the astronauts their lives.
Space Junk
Space junk is piles and piles of trash that is spread all across space and Earth. Scientist say that the space junk in space is posing a threat to space activities. They also say that they is becoming necessary to remove some of the space junk. National Geographic says: "Since the launch of the Soviet Union's Sputnik I satellite in 1957, humans have been generating space junk."
I think that space junk is cool but if it's posing a threat to space activities, then they should try to remove some of it. To learn more about this subject go to http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2006/01/0119_060119_space_junk.html!
Space Junk?
What is space junk and where does it come from, you ask. Well I'll tell you. Have you heard of about astronauts losing camera lenses in space? Well that lense becomes space junk.
All countries should try to help clean up the space, not just us. Scientists are trying to help but its a big job. Space junk can be dangerous too. For instance on March 12, 2009 a small piece of space junk was headed for our space station. They told astronauts to leave the station because that small piece of junk was going 17,000 miles an hour.
Luckily the space station was not harmed. But lots of little pieces make their way though our atmosphere. Once, it hit a women walking down her street. She wasn't harmed, but that's rather scary. I think if we don't get our space cleaned up soon then people will really start getting hurt. Don't you?
space junk
I read 2 articles about Space Junk. I hope we can stop it from increasing. The first article I read was about cleaning up the space junk. I liked what they thought would help astronauts. My second article was the big problem the space junk is causing. I thought it was good.
Don't you hate space Junk? I do. Let's get rid of it. The cleaning up article won in my opinion.
space junk watch out
today I read a story about space junk. It was a interesting article. The article said that there are more than 2,800 pieces of junk in the earth's gravity. The space station would test their new weapons on the old satellites. China also does this.
I read another article online that say that there is 13,000 pieces of space junk in earth's gravity. That's a lot of junk. The oldest piece of space junk is the 1958 Vanguard 1 research satellite, which stopped all functions in 1964.
These two sites each didn't have the same information. Like one said 2,800 an the other says 13,000 pieces of space junk. so one is off like 10,200 pieces of space junk or they are both wrong an it's more or less. That is a lot.
Space Junk
I just finished reading an article "Space Junk." It told me that in space, there is space junk because of all the rocket stages, parts from blown up satellites, human waste, and human made space junk. They want to remove the junk so they don't hit satellites and ruin them.
One of the articles said that there was 2,000 pieces of space junk. My "National Geographic" book says that there are now 300,000 pieces of space junk traveling the earth's atmosphere. The other article said that there was 13,000 pieces, including Edward White's space glove from when he lost it in his moon walk in '65. It said that his glove went around the earth at least 28,000 times until it blew up. There are also 2,500 satellites working and non-working in space.
Vanguard 1 is still in orbit and is the oldest piece of satellite space trash. A 100,000 tool bag was found in space and you could see it from a telescope. The scientists want to shoot space junk with lasers so then they could move the litter from the satellites, but if they do shoot it away it would come right back because of the Earth's orbit.
The Satellites Show...
The satellites show that Greenland's ice is melting and that if it does than a lot of places around the world will be gone. It also shows some other things, too, that is really bad. like the change in the temperature or the change in the fossil fuel gathered each year.
http://climate.nasa.gov/ClimateTimeMachine/climateTimeMachine.cfm that is the website to see the changes on Earth.
Rockets
My class is building rockets and I think it's super fun. My rocket is yellow.
The fins have smiley faces and an orange design.
Also, I named my rocket "Mr. Happy."
My rocket is made of math papers, cardboard, and a couple other special things. My rocket also has a parachute so it doesn't break when it lands.
I can't wait to launch my rocket!
The Rovers on Mars
I read about the parts of the Rover. On the Rover are the alpha particle X-ray spectrometer, the hazard avoidance cameras, the high and low gain antennas, the microscopic imager, miniature thermal emission spectrometer, the moessbauer spectrometer, the navigation cameras, the panoramic cameras, rock abrasion tool, rocker-bogie mobility system, and the solar arrays. Those are all the stuff on a rover.
Juno
I just was on the web site http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/main/index.html. It tell about how they are sending a spacecraft to Jupiter, but it won't leave Earth till next year, Aug. 2011. It's going to take Juno five years to get there in 2016. And they say it's going to go around 32 times then land on it and stay for a year. Then NASA will say the Juno mission was a success. And I can't wait to see if the Juno will be complete disaster or a wonderful new discovery that we never knew.
Must See NASA Pictures
Today at school, I was looking on a NASA Website because that is the subject in which we are learning. I started to scroll down the Images page, and at the end was a link to the Picture of the Day. Once I found this, I fell in love! For one, I adore the stars, galaxies, moons, and just looking at pictures of space itself. (When I was on a cruise, every night I would go to the top deck and stare at the stars forever.) This site, I thought, can-and will- give me fascination, entertainment and amazement for hours upon days upon....forever! I absolutely 100% think you should take a peek and the pics. P.S. I recommend April 19, 2010's picture.
ROCKETS
About 3 weeks ago our class started making rockets. I was really excited because I always wanted to learn about how things fly! When Mr. Noon gave us the packet with all the stuff that we would need to make the rocket I thought that it would be really confusing, but it turned out to be actually really easy. He also told us that we would need to know everything in the manual because once we were done with this project we would be given a test.
The first thing we did was take out a small plastic tube, which would be used to help us build our rocket and it was going to be really helpful when it was time to paint our rocket so we would not have to touch wet paint! Next that we each got a full piece of typing paper and with that we warped around the plastic tube. Then we toke a half sheet of white paper and warped that around the first sheet of white paper. After that it was time to put the gummed tape on which would be the outside of the rocket, first we cut a 45 degree angle at the end of the gummed tape, then we toke a damp sponge and made the back of it wet so it would stick, last we toke the gummed tape and rolled onto over the paper.
Next it was the best part of the whole project.... getting to design my fin and my rocket!
After I was done making the rocket body it was time to make my parachute that would fall out of the rocket when it comes back down to the ground after I had launch it. When we had gotten the packet there was already a parachute in there all we had to do was cut it out and attach the string. After I had did that I had to tie it to the the screw eye which is a little notch that is screwed into the the nose cone! I had to poke holes in each corner of the parachute an tided a 14 inch long string to each one. After that I took all the strings and tied them onto the screw eye, last I took my parachute and stuffed it into the rocket. Another thing that will go inside my rocket is the shock cord, and that is to keep the nose cone attached to the rocket. And all I did to make that was take a small paper rectangle shaped piece of paper and glued the and of the piece of paper to the end of the shock cord.

After my rocket was made and my parachute was done it was time to paint my rocket . This was my favorite part of making the rocket because i love art :). My rocket has white and light pink stripes. And my fins are neon yellow and purple stripes! After my rocket and fins were painted it was time to attach my find to the rocket. This was kinda hard because the fins had to be spaced evenly. Mine ended up not be spaced evenly. But it was not that bad, it might not fly straight though. The last step that was probably the hardest was assembling the engine, and what you would do was have a small card board tube, two card board rings things and a small metal piece that would hold onto the engine. First you would glue the metal piece onto the card board tube then put one of the card board rings on one end of the tube and one on the other end . After you are done assembling the rocket engine you put it into the back end of the rocket and when you are ready to put in the engine that is what you will use! Those are all the steps I used to make my rocket! :)
Pitsco Rockets.
When testing was finally over, we started to build rockets. The rockets come from a set called Pitsco Rockets. It's for science so I had to make it perfect. The rockets were hard to make because you couldn't mess up. If you messed up then you wouldn't be able to fix it. In this Pitsco set, there is no spare parts. So if you mess up, you mess up!
We also had to take a review test for our rockets. We had to answer questions about what we did, and the history, and discribe what our rockets look like. I think that the hardest part of when we were making the rockets was when we had to make the engine holder, put on the launch lug, and put on the gummed paper.
My rocket looks like a lollipop or a candy cane. It is pink and yellow and it swirls all the way to the top. The nose cone is yellow, and the fins have blue, yellow, and purple on them. It also has my name on it with a little bit tilting to it. I think that it looks like its going to blow up. But maybe not!
