The Great Alaskan Oil Spill
On March 24, 1989 the Exxon Valdez oil tanker spilt 11 million gallons of crude oil into the Prince William Sound. I think Exxon should pay more for the oil spill because The spill was horrible for alaska and the people that lived and worked in the Prince William Sound. Before the spill Prince William sound was beautiful place.
The spill damaged the environment really bad. Thousands of birds and animals died. The Bird and the baby seal that were covered with oil got washed on to the tar black oily beaches. The Clams got covered with oil and when the bears at them they got really sick or died. When the sea otters licked the toxic oil they died from it. Eagle's laid on the ground paralyzed and hopeless. More then 36,468 birds died from the horrible spill.
Before the spill people believe the the captain was drinking and was in bed when the spill happened. He had put the third man charge of the boat. Exxon thinks it is the captain fault that the spill happened but I think it was Exxon's fault that the spill happened. Exxon had hired the captain and new that he had a drinking problem and four years before the captain got his license taking away for drinking and driving. Exxon had a plan to pick up the oil that didn’t work and Exxon didn’t have enough equipment to pick the oil up.
During the spill people lost there jobs because of the spill because they couldn’t fish with all the oil in the water. Exxon also didn’t let the fisherman help clean up the spill. A lot of businesses had to shut down because all the people were trying to help clean up the spill. Fisherman didn’t get fish taxes because they couldn’t get any fish from the sound. The spill pretty much ruined some peoples life's.
The spill was so horrible to Alaska and it was one of the worlds biggest tragedies and will always be. Remember that it ruined peoples lives and businesses. These are the reason I want Exxon to pay more money.
