ALASKA'S OIL SPILL

By Christy - Posted on 26 February 2008

A lot of the effects of the Exon Valdez oil spill are:

  • The birds might die,
  • polar bears might become extinct.
  • Also swans, cranes, and geese search for food in the oily water.
  • And its bad for all of the people because they might get sick from the food they eat.
  • The oil spread over many square miles and killed lots of animals.
  • Oil also kills nature, like trees and grass, and pollutes the water.

The Valdez was on its was to Long Beach, California. It was carrying 1,264,164 barrels of oil, slick and thick as molasses.

On some days the Alaskan's Govenor's office received over 2,000 calls from people wanting to help.

The official count of the number of marine birds killed was 36,468. More than 2,000 bald eagles died.
