Island of the Blue Dolphins
The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O' Dell is about a girl named Karana who encounters a Aleut ship which sends every one into shock. The people on this ship decide to camp at Karana's island and kill some otters. Then before they left, they attacked the men on the island, leaving only about 14 behind. The villagers decided to travel to California, which is a long way away from the Island of the Blue Dolphins. Sadly, Karana and her little brother, Ramo, were left behind by accident on the island.
Ramo, Karana's brother, was killed by wild dogs shortly after. Karana was left by herself on the island. A few years later, she befriends a injured dog named Rontu. A year later, the Aleuts return again, bringing a girl, who befriends Karana. But when the Aleuts leave, Karana is sad because her friend leaves with them.
Rontu dies and Karana finds another dog named Rontu-eru, which means son of Rontu. 3 years later, a ship rescues Karana and Rontu-eru and brings them to California, leaving the Island of the Blue Dolphins behind to the dolphins that swim around it. I think this book is a great story and it I recommend is to anyone who loves adventures.
