Sirius (Seirios) The God of Dog-Star
Sirius was the God of the constellation of Canis Major. This star was believed to bring hot weather in the middle of summer.
Sirius was identified with myth. People say she might have been Maira a daughter of the Titan Atlas, and other people say she/he was Maira the dog of Ikarios, or Kyon Khyrseos the golden-hound of Zeus. She/he may also have been Orthros ("morning twilight") dog of Geryon, the giant of the west. The Dog-Star might also have been associated with the dog goddess, Hekate, daughter of Perses ("the destroyer") or Asteria "the Starry one".
Greek Spelling: Σειριος
Transliteration: Sierios
