Hamme Pool

Yesterday, November 7th 2009, I went swimming with my older sister, Suzy. We went swimming at Hamme Pool right next to Ryan Middle School.

What we did first was we swam to the bottom of the 12 ft pool. At first I didn't know how to swim really deep without losing all my of oxygen. Suzy knew how to because her gym time is at Hamme pool and she practices retrieving heavy objects. She asked me, "Do you want to race to the bottom of the pool?"

"I don't know how to," I replied.

"It's really simple. You just shape your arms and legs as a pencil,"she explained as she formed her body to look like a pencil. She continued, "Then as you're going down in the water, you let out some air, but not too much."

I looked at her funny. Why would you let out air? I thought you were suppose to hold it in. "Do you want to try?" she said interrupting my thoughts.

"Yes!" I exclaimed. So,I put on my goggles, straightened out like a sharp pencil, inhaled a mouthful of air, and dove underwater. My sister did the same. I let out a few bubbles of air then, felt the bottom of the 12 ft pool. I was so excited! I never did that before! I smiled underwater. :)

At first it was difficult for me to get to the surface; my sister noticed and reached a hand out. I grabbed it, and she pulled me to the surface. "That was so fun!" I exclaimed happily. She smiled and said, "It's really easy." We raced for 15 minutes then we decided to go to the wading pool.

We grabbed the fish floaty and played "shark". What you do is you are the shark if you have the goggles, while the other person is the survivor on the floaty trying not to fall off.If your are the shark, you have to knock over the floaty so the survivor falls off, then you give the goggles to them. After awhile, we went to the locker room. I had a great time with my sister.

That sounds really fun. I think going under water is scary. I don't like holding breath. You shouldn't anyway. That's why they invented air tanks.
