The Murphy Dome Field Trip
When we went up to Murphy Dome. We stopped for a few times.
At the first stop we took a road that lead us to a railroad track. We went to the other side of the track to see what was over there. As we went the trail we were on got wetter and wetter. We stopped midway and Mr. Noon and Mr. Traustason talked about how the lichens would stick to the tree. When they were done Mr. Traustason had this tool that would show the temperature, air pressure and wind speed. We had to write the information down on a piece of paper. Mr. Traustason told us the temperature and it was 48F and there was no wind speed and the air pressure was 27.1.
On the way back Mr. Traustason had another tool that could make a hole in a tree. He made a hole in a spruce tree or birch tree, I forgot. When he got the tool in the tree everyone got a turn to twist the tool around, after it was deep in inside Mr. Traustason pulled the tool out and there was a piece of round wood. Mr. Traustason said the piece of wood can show how old the tree is.
On the second stop we mostly did the same thing, but the trees were smaller. Mr. Traustason picked up this plant and inside the roots there were this little round things, he said the plant feeds on those things and he said the plant was called Elderly I think. The temperature was 45.9, no wind, and the air pressure was 27.06 in the Mid Hill.
As we went up the hill the trees got smaller and smaller. When we got up to the top we took a twenty minute hike. Sam found some blueberries. Some people picked blueberries and cranberries. As we went down there was a creek that lead down to the bottom, but we didn't follow it. We went to this big fat rock and ate our lunch there. The rock was called a Schist. While we were eating, Mr. Traustason told us what the temperature, air pressure, and wind speed was. The temperature was 41.9; the air pressure was 30.83; and the wind speed was 10.6 miles per hour. After we finished our lunch Mr. Traustason dug a small hole and there was these kind of soil that was called Silt. Silt is a kind of dirt that's fine clay like. As we finished studying, we had to hike up the hill. OMG it felt like we were hiking for one hour. When some of us got to the bus we had to wait for the slow pokes. When we went back it wasn't so loud. So that was what we did in the field trip XD
