Murphy Dome

By Debby - Posted on 21 September 2007

This Thursday my class went to Murphy Dome. It was very fun. It was a very long bus ride up to Murphy Dome. It was about 45 minutes I would say. But it was okay because most of us brought lots of stuff to do on the bus including tic tac toe and Hangman. We also talked a lot. There was enough seats on the bus so that everyone could have their own seat, but most of us sat with someone else so we would not get bored.

When we got to Murphy Dome I thought it was going to be very cold but it was not. It was about 40 degrees. We sat on a big rock that was schist. Schist is a type of rock that is flaky and most of the time shiny. The big rock we were sitting on was more dirty than shiny! We ate our lunch on the big rock. Thomas's apple rolled down the rock, and when he picked it up, a chunk was missing out of it.

After we finished eating, we dug into the ground, and we found a lot of silt. Silt is a type of thin clay that you find under the ground. Then we had to climb up the rest of the mountain after that. A lot of us stopped and picked berries. My friend Sadé and I picked a lot of berries and got very behind. When we walked up the trail the ground went from mushy moss, to gross mud with tiny brown water creeks.

When we got to the bus we sat in our seats and Mr. Noon took attendance to make sure that everyone was back on the bus. On the bus ride back, I was sitting next to Sadé, but she fell asleep. So I read a book with Tamara, who was across from me, since her friend, Tiffany, also fell asleep. When we got back to the classroom, we all drank a lot of water, and sat at our desks. Then we worked on our field guides that said all of the weather information about our trip. This trip was very fun!
