Lungless Frog

By Funky Monkey - Posted on 10 November 2009

I read a story about a lungless frog. The name of the species was barbourula kellentenensis. The frog story was on this website if you want to read it.

The frog was found in Singapore. The frog was dissected, and they found no lungs. It apparently breathes through its skin. They say that it was adaptation because it was found in cold water and there is high oxygen in the cold water so after time it learned to breath through it skin. It has a low metabolic rate which means it doesn't need a lot of oxygen. I think this is a really great story and you should read it. I was surprised that an animal could adapt to live without its lungs!
