L.A.

If I had 1 airline ticket to go anywhere in the world, I would go to L.A. because there are a lot of parks and I might meet a celebrity! Plus it is always nice and sunny and I would go to Beverly Hills. I hear it is really nice there.

I would go shopping at all the shopping malls. I would also go to the beach and play in the water! I would go to some of the amusement park and go on the rollercoasters.

I would try my best to meet a celebrity! If I were to choose a celebrity to meet, It would be Mike Meyers from Austin Powers. He is also the voice of Shrek. Did you know that? He played 2 characters in the first Austin Powers movie and 3 characters in the second Austin Powers movie. And L.A. is where I would go if I could go anywhere in the world with 1 airline ticket.

ME

I am pretty tall and I love donuts. My favorite donuts are chocolate ones. I would say I'm lazy because I don't get enough sleep, but I'm pretty sure I would be tired anyway. I like to organize lots of things - my room, my desk, and other stuff. I don't like to talk much, but when I do, my voice gets really quiet.

I am forgetful because if you tell me something, there's a
99% chance I'll forget what you said. I love to read and I am a fast reader. I've probably read 900 books since the time that I could read. I like to eat yummy food but I am very picky. I don't like it when different foods touch at all. GROSS! I love the french fries at Wendy's. They make the best french fries in the whole state. My favorite meal is breakfast. You know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Adelie Penguins

Adelie Penguins feed on tiny aquatic creatures such as shrimp-likekrill, Fish, and squid. Once on land, they build nest with small stones. When the female has a egg, the parents take turns sitting on it and make sure that it stays warm. During the Spring breeding season in October, they take to the Rocky Antarctic coastline were they live in communities called colonies.

The Adelie Penguin is a bird, and they are carnivorous. They can live up to 20 years. Their weight is 8.5 to 12 lbs.

You can go to National geographic.com and look up Adelie Penguins.

Aardvarks

Aardvarks live in Africa and South of Sahara. The Aardvarks name means "Earth Pig". The Aardvarks have Bunny-like ears and a Kangaroo-tail. But the Aardvarks are not related to any of those animals. The Aardvark spends their days underground and their nights putting their claws to good use. Hunting for their favorite food...Termites.

The Aardvark closes their nostrils so bugs can't get in and their thick skin protects the Aardvark from bites. The female Aardvarks gives birth to 1 newborn each year. The baby stays with the mother for 6 months and then they start digging their own burrows.

The Aardvark is a mammal and they are omnivores. Their average life span in captivity is 23 years. Weighs up to 110-180 lbs. Their tongue can be up to 12 inches long and Those are some great facts about Aardvarks. Go to http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/aardvark/ to read more about them.

Ancient Greece

Greece is a much harder place to live than Egypt because the soil is not that good and there is sometimes not enough water to grow plants or food. Not a lot of people lived there until much later. There was some real settlement around 55,000 BC. That was 57,000 years ago! Wow! Greek History was divided into a Stone Age, a Bronze Age, and a Iron Age. One place to find info about Greece is http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/greeks/history/history.htm.

Another great place to go to get a lot of information go to http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/greeks/history/history.htm.

Tarantulas

Tarantulas are very scary because they have hairy, long legs! The venom from a tarantula is actually weaker then from a bee sting. Tarantulas walk slow on their 8 hairy legs and insects are their main prey but they can also hunt down larger game like frogs, toads, and mice.

The Tarantula lives in the ground and there are are hundreds of Tarantula species in the worlds tropical , subtropical, and dessert regions. Tarantulas do not use a web to catch it's prey, they grab with their legs and paralyze them with venom and they bite with their fangs.

A wasp can paralyze a Tarantula with their sting and then lay eggs on the spider. Then the larvae would chow down the still living spider. The Tarantula can shed their external skeleton in a process called molting. The Tarantula can also regrow the internal organs and can regrow missing legs.

Tarantulas are carnivores and eat mostly insects. After a long meal, the Tarantula may not need to eat for a month. Tarantulas can live to be 30 years old out in he wild. They can weigh up to 3 ounces. To learn about Tarantulas go to http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/Animals/CreatureFeature/Tarantulas

The ZooZoo performance

Today we went to the ZooZoo performance and we went with our cute little biddies. It was really fun to watch and there were many parts that were my favorite. The ZooZoo performance was kind of about a zoo. There were a lot of animals. Actually it was people dressed and acting like animals. The main animals that were in the play were anteaters, rabbits, frogs, polar bears, and penguins.

Each animal had something funny to do. Some parts had nothing to do with animals, but it was still very interesting. My favorite part was when the Anteaters would go out in the audience and lick peoples heads. It was really funny and people had lots of fun.

There was also a very funny part when the penguins would play musical chairs. It was funny because sometimes, the penguins would cheat. The polar bears would go out and sniff peoples heads. It was really fun. The frigs would hop around and be silly. The rabbits were doing something funny I guess. It wasn't that funny but the rest was very funny.

The ZooZoo performance was very funny and I really enjoyed it. And so did my buddy!

The earthquake that hit Haiti

On January the 12th, Haiti was struck my an earthquake that was magnitude 7. The International Red Cross estimates that a third of Haiti's citizens will need special aid. The earthquake destroyed many houses, schools, hospitals, and the national palace of Port-au-Prince. Now, the city is without electricity or phone service.

People are very sad that this has happened and many of people have been injured. With lots of hope, those people will will get new homes. To read more about this tragic event, go to http://kidsblogs.nationalgeographic.com/kidsnews/2010/01/haiti-devastate....

My New Haircut

A couple days ago, I wanted a hair cut. And my mom said that she will cut my hair the next time that I take a shower, she will cut my hair. But we were having toilet problems so the toilet was backing up and it was backing up into the bath tub so we can't take a shower.

So I had to wash my hair in the sink. Then I got my hair cut. I was scared because when my mom cut my bangs, she cut them too short and I thought that she might cut my hair too short but she didn't!

I really like my haircut because now it's not always in my face. I had to sit in a chair for a long time while my mom cut my hair. But my hair turned out pretty good. I think it turned out pretty good. done

The Museum of the North

Today we went to the University Museum. We learned a lot about art and about artists. I liked the museum a lot and the part I liked the best was the paintings. I like how the artists paint things from an event that happened or they were someplace and they painted what they saw.

Jenna told me what she thought about the museum. I asked her questions about our field trip to the museum and this was what she said:

Me: "Did that museum make you want to be a artist?"

Jenna: "Mmm. No, not at all."

Me: "Why not?"

Jenna: "I'm not good at it and I just don't like it."

Me: "What kind of art are you interested in?"

Jenna: "I'm not really interested in it but if I had to choose one, I would choose the 3D art because I like how it pops out."

Me: "What do you think was the worst part?"

Jenna: "They took forever to talk about random things."

That is what she thought about the Museum.

How My Week Went

All this week, we had inside recess. I was surprised how cold it was. That was probably the coldest week we had all winter so far. I was on the computer most of the inside recess. We went to website called: Cool math-games.com and there is a lot of cool games there. I tried to play a game called meeblings. It's a pretty fun game but I'm not very good at it.

My friend, Odyssey, was playing and I went over and just watched her play. So the next day, when a computer was open, I went to meeblings and tried it. But like I said, I wasn't very good at it.

There is also a whole bunch of other games on that website. There's a list of games that you can play. There was another game called boombot. It was really fun but I'm not that good at computer games. Odyssey got all the way to level 31 on the meeblings games. It was pretty good. I couldn't even past level 10.

We also had a sub today. His name was Mr. Parente but he says that some people call him Mr. P, or Mr. PE. People call him Mr. PE because he used to be a PE teacher at another school.

My week was pretty good and I kinda miss the wonderful outdoors. But maybe by next week, the weather will warm up!

owls, turtles, and cats

OWLS

Owls are very interesting creatures because they do very interesting things. First of all, they can't move their eyes so they move their head to look in the direction they want to see in. Owls need sleep too. But they do it in a different way. Owls sleep during the day and do their hunting for food at night. Owls eat tiny mice. Owls are very interesting creatures and they are known for making a "hoo, hoo, hoo" sound. Sometimes at night, when it's dark, and you go outside, you can hear them!

TURTLES
Turtles are very cute. The baby turtle s are the cute ones. The big ones can be a little scary. Turtles are known for moving really slow, and they kinda do. I want to talk about a special kind of turtle. The sea turtles. The sea turtles lay their eggs by going on the shore and planting their eggs in the sand. A while later, the (cute) baby turtle comes out of the egg and finds it's way back to the sea. It's pretty amazing.

CATS

The Big Hill

I love the beauty of Winter. I like it when it is around January and we are getting more sunlight. Me and my friend Bridget like to hang out after school and a couple days ago, we went to the BIG, SCARY, university sledding hill. I've only been there once before and that was with my dad...in the dark. That was a couple weeks earlier. But when I got there with Bridget, we had to climb all the way to the top and that hill is very steep.

The first time we went on it, we went on the same sled. (That was a huge mistake) The first 5 seconds were fun but then we slid and started to sled down the hill backwards. That was really scary. Then when we got closer to the bottom, we flipped and fell off the sled. It was not that fun, so we never went on the same sled again. But then we went on different sleds and it was a lot more fun. That was on a Friday, and the next Monday we went on the hill again, but this time we got dropped off at the top of the hill. We had to find our way through some woods but we did it!

We almost got really lost.

A new expirience

"This does not look safe." I told my grandpa.

"We'll be fine."

The plane that I climbed on was beat up with dents. The pilot put our luggage in the plane and I went to say goodbye to my mom. Then I hopped on the plane and was ready to take flight. I t turned out to be really fun.

"When do we land?" I asked my grandma. I had to yell because the airplane was so loud.

"What?"

"When do we land?"

"What?"

"I said, when do we land?"

"What?"

"WHEN DO WE LAND?"

"You don't have to yell, I can hear you just fine. We will be landing soon."

I looked at that woman like she was crazy. She always does that to me. Act like she can't hear me when she can.

When we finally landed we went to the house we were supposed to stay in. We were gonna stay with one of my grandma's friends. She had a grandson named Anthony that was 6. There were so many mosquitoes.

"Do you want to play?" Anthony asked me when I was watching
t.v.

"OK. What do you want to play?" I asked.

"Let's go down to the graveyard!" he said with joy.

"OK. Let's go."

Genetics

I have learned that you get most of your genetics from your parents. People say that I look like my mother but they must be kidding because I don't look anything like my mother. Both my mother and my dad have black hair and I ended up with brown hair. When I was little I had blond hair. Then It started turning brown.

Genetics from dad: nose..um.. think that is it.

Genetics from mother: knees, cheeks, feet, ears,

I suppose I do look more like my mother than my dad

The four seasons

The four seasons are Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.

Spring: Comes after winter and begins March 20th. Spring is a popular season because the snow thaws and the grass comes out and the flowers bloom. Spring is a good season to play outdoors and tend to your garden full of beautiful, colorful flowers. Some think Spring is a rather beautiful season and that is very true.

Summer: When the tourists come to town to stay in our best hotels and resorts. Summer starts June 21st. Summer is when kids have no school so it is really fun to go outdoors or get into a new sport. Summer is a good season to grow vegetables and fruit. Some trees that grow flowers on them, bloom their flowers in the summer. They are very beautiful!

Fall: Begins on September 23rd. Fall is when the leaves begin to change color to red, yellow, and orange. It is a good time to go on a ride around to see the flowers change their color. Fall is when the woodland animals gather up their food to store for the Winter. Fall is when your new chore is raking the leaves. Fall is when the coldness starts to kick in and you are on your way to getting a parka.

Chickens, Dogs, and Rabbits

When I went to my dad's house this weekend, I did a lot of hard work. I had to deal with chickens, dogs, and well, I didn't get to see a rabbit, but It's a nice story to tell. Let's start with the dog part.

My dad's boss owns 4 dogs that are part wolf. Today I got to get closer to them. The biggest and scariest dog was the nicest dog. But he did try to jump on me a couple times. The sad thing was, one of the dogs got beat up by another dog. She had to go in a different cage so she doesn't get beat up again. We didn't give as much food to the one who beat the other dog up then the other dogs. They are really nice doggies.

Then we went to go feed the chickens and see if there was any eggs. There was about 30 chickens and out of all of then, they only laid 9 eggs. 2 of the chickens died. They froze. Very sad. Then we went into the chicken house. It smelled bad but I got used to it.

One of the roosters were biting at a poor little chicken. My dad had to kick the rooster off the poor thing. Now for the rabbit part. Me and my dad went out into the woods to set some rabbit snares. we set 4 but on the next day, we didn't catch any rabbits. That's okay.

Avalanche

For an avalanche to happen, the hill has to be 25 degrees. A clump of snow can cause a avalanche to happen. When an avalanche is happening, it goes 100-130 kilometers per hour. When a skier is crisscrossing on the hill, it can cause the snow to start falling.

Mr. Adams is a snow and avalanche scientist at Montana State University. He spends a lot of time on mountains studying avalanches and telling the speed.

I have always thought that an avalanche was a little scary because snow is cold and an avalanche is like a herd of 20,000 elephants speeding downhill.

Going To The Fair

It was a beautiful day at the Tanana State Fair. It was around August I would say. I love going to the fair and I usually don't have fun without a friend by my side. I had my little friend, Anthony with me. He was about 6 at the time and we were going on rides together. We had to go on some kid rides because Anthony was too young to go on the older rides that I like to go on. One ride that we went on was... well, I forgot what it was called, but we had to sit in a apple and we had to try to twirl it around.

It was kinda like the tilt-a-whirl. I had some fun but Anthony was screaming with glee. After that ride he wanted to go on the giant purple slide with me but I thought it wasn't gonna be as much fun as it was when I was younger. He didn't make me go on it though.

World War ll And Number The Stars

Our class read a book called Number The Stars. It is about events in World War 2. A very important character in the book is Annemarie. Annemarie is a little girl who lives in the time of World War 2. Annemarie, her best friend Ellen, and her little sister, Kirsti live in Denmark. Denmark was a place where the Germans invaded.

Hitler has a whole army of Nazi soldiers who capture Jewish people to be deported. You can see pictures of World War 2 and read about many facts about how badly the Jews were treated.

Ellen and her family are Jewish so she has to try her best to blend in and pretend not to be Jewish. They leave Denmark so Ellen will be safe and will not be taken away by soldiers. At the end of the book, Annemarie keeps a necklace that Ellen had so she can keep it safe and Annemarie hopes to see Ellen again.

The Meanest Doll In The World

I just finished reading a really good book. It is the second book of "The Doll People." It was about Annebelle And Tiffany going to a school.

Annebelle, Tiffany, and Aunt Sarah were dolls in the attic looking for spiders when they saw a rare spiderweb. When they were running to see it, Annebelle tripped and fell into a spiderweb. Tiffany and Aunt Sarah were trying to get her out when they heard the humans getting up.

All of them ran out of the basement and tried to hurry back to Kate's room. Aunt Sarah hid behind the attic door and Tiffany and Annebelle jumped in Kate's backpack to avoid being spotted. But they didn't get out in time and they were carried away to Kate's school.

When they found out they were at a school, they decided to look around. They went from classroom to classroom looking for Kate. When they were in the classroom, Tiffany got spotted by a little girl who wanted to play with Tiffany. So Tiffany had to be played with by the little kids, and since they wouldn't stop playing with her, Annebelle and Tiffany had to spend the night at the school.

The Sledding Hill

Last Monday, the principal let us go on the sledding hill. I was so excited because I love to fall off the sled on my way down the hill for some reason. When the bell rang I ran like the wind to the hill as fast as I could. I grabbed a sled and went down the hill. A lot of snow got in my face but it was fun otherwise. A lot of people wanted to sled, I guess, so I went on the other side of the hill and ran down and slid on my knees. It was so fun. I pushed my friend down the hill and she pushed me back. But at least no one got hurt. I enjoy the hill and I am grateful that our school has such a big and awesome hill to sled on!

the doll people

I just started to read this really amazing book called The Doll People. It's about real China dolls that live a secret life of coming to life. Whenever the humans are away, the dolls can move around as they please.

It's a little easy, but it's a great book. I recommend it to anyone who likes magical books. It is called The Doll People, and can be found in the Denali school library.

The main event that happened in the story was that Annebelle (main doll) had an Aunt Sarah who was missing after going out of the doll house (risking her life). She loves to find spiders and see how they live, but then Aunt Sarah got trapped and couldn't return to the doll house, being absent for 45 years.

Then one day Annebelle was bored because she didn't have any friends, so she looked around in her room and found a special journal that happened to belong to her Aunt Sarah who was missing. Annebelle looked through the journal hoping to find a clue about where her Aunt was. When she went looking for her Aunt with her brother and uncle, she found another doll family that was a birthday present for one of the humans.

Bottled Water

A bottle of water uses a lot of fossil fuels and may pollute the environment. When 29 billion Americans buy more bottled water then any other nation in the world. We are adding 29 billion bottled waters to the problem. It is a lot better to drink water from a faucet and not from bottled waters. It causes a lot of pollution to the planet. Some people don't know the problems drinking out of a bottles causes so they do it anyway.

To improve the pollution from drinking water out of a bottle, you can recycle them. They can be turned into a rug or something useful someone can use. When you recycle one plastic bottle, it can save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb.

More about Leven Thumps

One of my favorite characters in the story, Leven Thumps, is Winter. One of my predictions in this part is that Winter and Leven are going to meet because Winter develops a power to turn things into ice. In school, she laughs at her teacher and she gets yelled at. So she freezes everyone for giving Winter such a hard time. Winter can freeze and thaw anything she wants.

In the hallway, the principal saw her and wonders what she is up to. She lies and says she was doing an errand for her teacher. (The mean teacher only became a teacher because the principal was his uncle.) So when the principal is taking Winter back to class, she freezes him, stuffs him in a closet, goes home, packs up, goes to the train station, and buys a ticket to Oklahoma.

To get the ticket, Winter has to lie (again) and say she was visiting her grandmother and she said a strange couple was her parents. She has to start a conversation with the couple to convince the ticket seller. She thinks about leaving her horrible mother and freezing her and the house.

Leven lives in Oklahoma so that's why I think they will meet.

Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo

I am reading a very fun book called Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo. Odyssey recommended it to me. This book is about a fourteen year old boy named Leven Thumps who's mother died at his birth. His mother died because his father died 2 weeks before Leven was born and Leven's mother couldn't stand to live without him, so she died of being ill.

So Leven had to live with his mother's half sister, Addy Graph. She is annoyed with Leven and is very mean to him. She, her husband, and Leven live in a trailer home in Burnt Culvert, Oklahoma. Addy makes Leven sleep outside on a little mattress but Leven doesn't mind much.

Then a girl named Winter who is thirteen years old showed up in the story. She lives almost the same life as Leven. She lives with a bitter women that is her mother, Janet. Janet doesn't love her.

Leven has a special power of making the future happen the way he wants to and preventing something from happening (and seeing the future.) Winter has the power to freeze things and thaw the things that she freezes.

Chicken Pox Shot

In 5th grade, we had to get our chicken pox shots. I was terrified because I hate to get shots. I was only scared because I thought it would be one of those shots that stay in your skin for a while. But it wasn't, so that made me feel better. My stomach hurt a little when it was over. They had a food stand that had little cups of goldfish and juice boxes. I grabbed some and sat down next to my friends to eat.

We talked about how scary it was about getting a shot. But we survived. While I was drinking some yummy apple juice, I spilled some on my pants, so it looked like I went to the bathroom. I tried my best to hide it with my shirt but it was hard. I managed.

We were studying marine animals and creatures from the deep. I had to finish an art project we were working on. I thought it was turning out pretty well. But then I started to feel really sick. Things started turning black and I felt really tired and light headed. Then I tipped over and hit the side of my face on the corner of my neighbors desk. Then I tipped on my neighbor's lap. Then I blacked out for...I'm not sure how long. But I got back up and I started thinking that it was a dream.

GARFIELD

A couple of weekends ago, I saw that my friend Odyssey had gotten a Garfield book. I was bored so I started reading one of them, I was never really interested in Garfield but when I read the first comic strip, I laughed my guts out. So now I enjoy reading Garfield.

I like buying the old Garfield books because the Garfield that was in 1978 doesn't look like the Garfield now, in 2009. That was very interesting. I went on Garfield.com and I realized that Jim Davis (the author of Garfield) writes a Garfield comic strip every day. That is so cool.

They have lots of cute, funny games on the Garfield website. You can even make your own comic strip! You can meet all the characters in the Garfield books, and you can buy cool Garfield t-shirts and everything, so you should check it out sometime!

MY PHOTO

About a week ago, I was walking around the school and I saw a bird playing in a tree. It was really close to me so I pulled out my phone and was ready to take a picture. Right when I took the picture, the bird flew away, but I got an amazing photo of a bird flying away. It was so beautiful, I got part of the sun setting in it, too.

I wish I knew how you get it off my phone, so I could show the readers of this blog. Well, I guess you can imagine what it looks like.

About Being A Fly On The Wall

I like being a fly on the wall because I notice things that I never noticed before. On the first fly on the wall day, I was downstairs and it was loud and quiet at the same time. Mrs. Brown's class was a little loud but the hallway outside of her class was quiet.

When I was upstairs, I was right next to the library and across from the elevator. Some same/same stuff that I noticed: both downstairs and upstairs are loud and quiet at the same time. But they were very different, too.

The last time I was a fly on the wall, I was right across from Mr. Keener's classroom which was across from the library, so I haven't moved that much. A lot happened the last time, because Mr. Keener's class was doing a oral book report so it was interesting to listen to.

A women asked me what I was doing because she saw my other classmates around the lobby I guess.

I really enjoyed being a fly on the wall and I hope I notice more stuff.
