Space Junk
I read three articles on space junk and they all talk about different things. I read all National Geographic articles one was on cleaning it up the other were almost the same. The thing is that two of the three both talked about Edward White losing his glove.but the clean up one talked about how they track trash 4 cm in diameter and bigger and now that realized another one also mentioned that. but there saying to send up a ship with a jaw and eat the trash and shoot it into our atmosphere and let it burn. I also think that is a good idea. But all I now is that we got to clean it up before it becomes a big problem and it is also dangorus if there is a colistion between two space junk item.
Reading
I've read lots of books this year; maybe thirty-five to around fifty books. I mostly read books that were funny, exciting, or interesting. And I also think I have improved as a reader. And my reading skills have also improved greatly.
In the beginning of the year I read Goosebumps books, and those are easy books, Now I've read Old Yeller, and Alice in Wonderland - that book is complicated. And now I've started the series, A Series of Unfortunate Events; I'm on book five. So I think I've grown as a reader.
I also think, reading a lot of books, I learned that I like mysterious books, or funny ones, and I like books with interesting facts. I think the most meaningful books were the Series of Unfortunate Events. I really like them, and I hope I'll be able to finish the series by the end of the summer.
The Concert
This week, on Wednesday the 28, my school is going to have a concert with the band, the choir, and the one I'm in orchestra. I play the cello and I've been playing the cello for three years now, and I'm going to keep playing. I play two times that day - in the afternoon and the evening. We're going to play three piece and they're all really cool and fun to play. And I can't wait also my friend also plays the cello. And we always have fun playing. Today was our last rehearsal before the concert. So I'm real excited.
Juno
I just was on the web site http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/main/index.html. It tell about how they are sending a spacecraft to Jupiter, but it won't leave Earth till next year, Aug. 2011. It's going to take Juno five years to get there in 2016. And they say it's going to go around 32 times then land on it and stay for a year. Then NASA will say the Juno mission was a success. And I can't wait to see if the Juno will be complete disaster or a wonderful new discovery that we never knew.
The Wand
One day I took the bus to school. I was in seat M. I was working on my homework because I left it in my backpack but I was working when my pencil jumped out of my hand and rolled under my seat. I jumped down and saw it had gotten stuck in between a really gross looking lollipop with hairs stuck to it and a kid's foot. But next to my pencil, I saw a sparkly stick; it looked like a seven year old girl had made it. It had pompoms and glitter; it was pretty much a fairy wand. But this is the story of how I used it!
The two worst things about this is one, I only got to use it once, and two, I accidentally touched the lollipop with HAIR on it! At that point I didn't know it was a wand, so I just held it for awhile and put it in my backpack. During break time I took it out and started saying random magic words like abracadabra and stuff. Then I sneezed ACCHOOOOO. after that I said, "I wish school was over (that was my one wish. I should have said, no more school or something better than, I wish school was over).
After that I was on the bus going home. I couldn't figure out what happened. When I got home I was tired so I went up to my room. When I opened my door I saw a women with wings I don't know what happened next, I fainted. But when I came to the women and the wand was gone!
That was the story about how and what I did with that stick wand thing. P.S. If you didn't know the magic word was ACCHOOOOO.
Australia
If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Australia. I'd go there to see all the exotic animals like the kangaroo, also the koala, and all the other exotic animals.
The koala is one of my favorite animals because when I was a kid I saw a documentary on a koala; they're so cute!
Also its pretty warm there and I love warm weather. And I also love to go to the beach because I love to swim, scuba dive, and snorkel, and anything that involves swimming. I'd do that to see all the strange and weird fish underwater, and maybe see the Great Barrier reef. I love to swim!
I would also like to see all the wonderful cities, like Sydney and maybe an opera. I have never seen one.
And I'd try some of their exotic foods. I have heard the locals eat kangaroo (weird).
Those are some of the reasons I would visit Australia if I had a ticket to anywhere.
Math
My favorite subject is math; I love figuring out problems. I love algebra and fractions, they're my favorite math subjects. I love algebra because its fun to work with numbers and letters. But I don't like adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers, or decimals. They confuse me a lot, like how two negatives make a positive - it's complicating.
I like solving problems like 10 to the power of X, times X, equals 200. (Answer: 10 times 20 equals 200), and pan balances. I think that multiplication is super easy for me.
I like to learn new things in math! And that's why I like math.
what happened this week.
This week at my house I got a T.V. IT was a late Christmas present. It was huge. My Dad got it for me and I was so happy. It was one of the best presents ever.
It was a thirty-two inch flat screen T.V. It took me and my Dad awhile till we finally got it hooked up. It took us over an hour to hook it up. Then we got all the channels then we set up the clock and everything else. It has fifteen channels on it. It's real cool.
It was one of the best things I ever got. I thanked him so much. Right now we got it set up and it is awesome. And now I can watch all my movies and stuff.
Awesome Present
"What is it?, Who you think its for?" I asked.
"I don't know!" said my friend Jazz.
It was Christmas morning and Jazz And I were looking at the biggest present under the tree; it was the size of a giant.
My mom saw us looking at the present and said, "What are you kids doing?"
We both heard her and turned around and said at the same time, "Nothing!"
We went on looking around. We went around the house seeing what people were doing when a lot more people started coming for breakfast.
Electricity
In science class we are studying electricity using a light bulb, paperclip, and a battery. We first figured out how to light the light bulb. It took awhile but I figured out how you put the light bulb on either end of the battery, because there is no top or bottom on a battery, just a positive and a negative. Then take the paperclip on the opposite side of the light bulb and stretch it to the screwy metal part of the bulb and touch it.
At first I touched the paperclip to both ends of the battery and then put the bulb on the paperclip but the paperclip just got really hot. Also an other way it didn't work was just putting the light bulb on the battery. That wasn't even close to working!
Me and my friend also figured out how to use two paperclips, a light bulb, and a battery. It's almost the same way, but the paperclips each touch one side and one of the paper clips touches the screwy part, and the other touches the bottom. It was a really fun project and I loved playing with electricity but it is dangerous to play with electricity.
The Concert
At my school we just had our concert not too long ago. I was in it! It was the band, choir, chimes, and my favorite, orchestra. Its my favorite because I am in it. I play the cello; its my favorite instrument, and the piano. I've been playing for two and a half years. At the concert we played three awesome songs, Dragon Slayer, Wild Western Frontier, and Russian Music Box. We played them in that order, and now we're learning a new song called Star Fleet. It sound sort of space music. It sounds cool.
We've been waiting for the concert for months now and it was great. We played and it sounded cool. We had to wait awhile till we got to play, but I could wait. We played at my school. When it was time to play I got my cello and got in position to play. The conductor\teacher told us to be calm and play our best. It was super fun and when we were done everyone started to clap. I can't wait till our next concert!
The Weird-O Watsons
My teacher is reading a book to us about the Weird Watsons. It's about this strange family that lives in Flint Mishigan. It's a really funny book. Because in one chapter this kid Kenny's big brother By was looking at himself in the mirror of the family car outside and kissed him self in the mirror and his lips froze to the mirror, and their neighbors saw them trying get them unstuck and that's one reason they're called the weird Watsons.
Kenny in the book has a lazy eye and he can't make it go straight and kids at his school call him cock eyed Kenny the kids also call him Poindexter. He gets teased a lot at school. This kid named Larry Dunn would give him what he calls maytags and he gets snow in every part of his face. It must be really cold.
My Friend
In second grade I went to a different school named Denali. I didn't think I would make any friends, but I did! It's almost the first thing I did with my best friend today, Wes. It all happened like this.
It was the first day of school; I was scared. I came in and found my classroom. I walked in and saw a lot of kids playing and talking. I just found my seat and sat down. I didn't talk to anyone until recess.
I went outside and walked around for a couple of minutes. Then I saw some kids playing tag! I was scared to ask if I could play. I went up to a kid and said, "Hello, can I play tag?" And I happened to ask Wes.
He said, "Sure."
I wasn't in his class but every day we would go outside for recess and talk and play. We really got along and figured out that we don't live that far away from each other. He became my best friend.
And its all because I said hello and asked if I can play tag. That was the day I met and got my best friend, Wes. And now I have a lot of friends!
Number the Stars
My class just finished a book named Number the Stars; it's written by Lowis Lowry. Its a story about WW2. Two girls are best friends in the story. One's name is Ellen and she's Jewish. The other one's name is Annemarie, and shes not Jewish.
It tells about how it was dangerous to let the German soldiers know you were Jewish. They would take you away and maybe kill you. Ellen was almost always with Annemarie's family, and one the soldiers came, and Ellen had to act like Annemarie's dead sister, Lise. Annemarie's parents planed this so when the soldiers looked around they wouldn't know that Ellen is not their dauter the soldiers never learned that there not related.
At the end of the book Ellen's family had to escape to Sweden. Annemarie's uncle would hide them in his boat but they accidentally lost a package that would knock out the dogs sense of smell if the soldiers brought them. They did. they got the package and before the Germans cane and she saved a lot of peoples lives.
This is a really good book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes historic fiction.
What it's Like to be a Fly on a Wall
Being a fly on a wall means to observe and take notes of your surroundings. My teacher would drop us off all around the school to take notes. In all the places I was in it was never quiet. There were doors creaking, basketballs bouncing, kids talking, and you hear footsteps everywhere. It can get boring, but something's always happening. A lot of kids are talking and using the bathroom; there is always something to see and hear. I like to watch where people are going and see what's happening in other classrooms.
One time I was outside the 1st grade class. Boy, it was never quiet! Kids were talking, screaming, and crying non-stop, and across the hall the door opened every 10 seconds; it got annoying. I was also seeing what was happening in the 3rd grade class. They weren't doing too much. They were coloring and their teacher was reading a book to them. I thought they were lucky It looked like a good book.
Lungless Frog
I read a story about a lungless frog. The name of the species was barbourula kellentenensis. The frog story was on this website if you want to read it.
The frog was found in Singapore. The frog was dissected, and they found no lungs. It apparently breathes through its skin. They say that it was adaptation because it was found in cold water and there is high oxygen in the cold water so after time it learned to breath through it skin. It has a low metabolic rate which means it doesn't need a lot of oxygen. I think this is a really great story and you should read it. I was surprised that an animal could adapt to live without its lungs!
Good and Bad reasons for Living in Alaska
Living in Alaska is great but there is some good reasons to not live in Alaska. Here are some: The weather in Alaska gets really cold; one time it got to -50. It was freezing that day, I got real sick. So this isn't the place you want to live in the winter. Also most of the cities are really small so if you're looking for a big city, this ain't the right place for you. And it's full of bugs like mosquitoes and big spruce beetles.
Spider
According to "Frightful Animals" in National Geographic the goliath tarantula's bite is deadly. The goliath bird eating tarantula's bite is fatal to its prey. That's one strong bite! The goliath is one big tarantula. It's known to become the size of a man's foot. That's about 12 inches long. It also has no teeth. It has fangs the size of my pinky. So when the tarantula bites it injects a venom that turns its inside into a soup-like liquid. Then it drinks it!
Did you know that the goliath bird eating tarantula got its name when a man found it eating a small bird, so he named it the goliath bird eating tarantula. But I don't know if the man's name was Goliath!
I think the goliath tarantula is big, scary, and dangerous. I don't know if you think the goliath is all these things, but I had fun reading about the goliath tarantula. It is awesome!
My Pet Guinea Pig
I have a pet guinea pig named Bunny, BUT I didn't name him - my brother did; ok! My family got him about four to five months ago from Pet Co.
Bunny is half licorice black and half white. He's super fat, about four pounds. He purrs, licks, and he's loud. He has big floppy ears, and a stomach made of steel!!
I mean he eats everything. He'll eat grass, carrots, watermelon, bananas, celery etc. I think his favorite is watermelon but I don't know. I'll give him a big baches of grass, watermelon, carrots, bananas, celery and some other stuff and he'll eat it (all of) it in about 20 min tops. And for some reason he always makes a big mess (BIG MESS)!
I remember a time when we got my dad was laying down with Bunny when . . . all of the sudden my dad said "Why is my shirt wet?" . Then he realized that he was wet were Bunny was. So then he figured out that Bunny had Peed on his shirt. my dad was mad! I thought it was funny!
A couple of facts about Bunny. he dose not I reapet he dose not like to be pat on the head he might get mad and you wouldn't like him when he's mad! And he gots a strong bite!
How I spend my weekend
On the weekends I like to spend my time biking through the neighborhood with friends like good1 and hokeyplayer30. We just bike around. I also like to stay the night at friends' houses. On Saturday I have a piano lesson I go to; it's real fun. And some days I have to watch my baby brothers; we play on the trampoline, and I show them my backflips and frontflips. It's somewhat fun. And I like to watch movies like Ghostbusters 1&2, and Band of Bothers. Those are my favorite movies. I like to play soccer with my friends. And I spend time with my parents and we go to the Farmers' Market. We get all types of fresh fruit, like cucumber and crab apples. I like the Farmers' Market.
SM
This is my story of the SUPER MONKEY SM for short. It all happened like this on fine sunny day Fred the money was with his owner Bob they were at the fair. when they were on a really awesome ride that went around and around and around and well you get the point but this is the really important part so you better listen to me. Then Fred slipped out and for some strange resson there were barrels of toxic waste and guss what he landed in the barrels of toxic waste what a caincidec. Then he became Super Monkey but he didn't know it so he went to go find Bob next thing he knew he bumped in to him so they went home together. while they were walking Fred started to levitate off the ground and fly.
Then Sam said, "how are you doing that?"
My Brother
This is a story about my baby brother, Moris. It all happened some time around June of 08. We were all sleeping when all of a sudden I heard a big THUMP followed by a loud obnoxious crying. It took a while before I realized it was my brother crying because I was tired.
The next morning, my brother was still crying it was anoying. My parents got worried so they took him to the doctor's. It turned out that he fell off the bed; he whacked his arm so hard that he broke his wrist. The next day they went back to the doctor's and put this little cast on him. This went on for another 2 agonizing weeks! Once the 2 weeks were over he got the cast off and he finally stopped crying I was so happy but I bet he was happier.
My back
Hello my name is Funky Monkey and I am going to talk to you about my back today. My back is very useful to me but maybe not to you. Without it I would be short and floppy; that would suck. If you were to feel it, it would feel weird and bumpy. I like it when I get a back massage. It feels good! Whenever my dad gets a scratch on his back he acts like a bear. Maybe its because his nickname is Bear, but anyway he finds a corner and wiggles until it stops itching like a real bear on a tree; it looks funny.
