greek godess iris (NOT DONE)

I'm writing about a goddess Iris. She is the goddess of the rainbow. I wanted to write about her because she looked cool. Since a rainbow looks like it comes from the sea into a cloud the Greeks thought that a rainbow carried water and would replenish the clouds. Weird right? I thought so too. To the Greeks she was a messenger from the gods, but when it came to her in general she was known as a goddess.

my sweet treat

My sweet treat is a chocolate dipped frozen bananas on a stick. Every year when the fair comes around I have at least 5 of them or I'm not satisfied. Frozen bananas are my favorite treat because, well, I like bananas and I like chocolate. So it all goes together and creates my favorite treat. Frozen bananas are like bliss on a stick. It smells like a vanilla cupcake. It looks like a brown banana. My mom doesn't like them but me and my brother love them. I'm always excited for the fair so I can enjoy some more.

weather complications

Cold weather in Alaska is frustrating. It also has its complications. Like every state, they have their own problems. Alaska has some too, and that is the cold weather. People who are not from Alaska say it's 40 below zero even though it is only 10 below zero. I had a family member from Texas come to visit. When we found her she was shivering, teeth clattering and everything, and you want to know why? SHE WAS WEARING SHORTS!! So here is my aunt walking through the airport with shorts on with 20 below weather. Everyone was staring at her funny, like she was crazy or something.

It was kind of funny when we got home. She was chewing us out because we didn't tell her that it was reaching below zero. Since the road was slippery on our drive home, my aunt was scared to drive anywhere. And when we did, she would squeal every time we made a turn. On our way to the airport my aunt found out she had frostbite on her toes. After we dropped her off we headed back to the car. When my mom tried to start it, it didn't start. We had to stand there a half hour in the cold until someone helped us get it started so we could get home.

Hamme pool

First grade was fun. I liked it. Our teacher's name was Mrs Martin-Muth. She was the best. We went on a lot of field trips but the biggest one was when we went to Hamme Pool. I was always scared to go in the water but it didn't feel right staying out of the water, so I went in. It was kind of a shock because it was so cold but I ignored it and slowly made my way to the shallow water. After I got used to the cold I ventured further out. Seeing people swim in tv shows looked easy so I tried it myself. It didn't work and I slipped and fell under the water. I started to panic.

Miles

Hi my name is Destinee and this is my story about a dog named Miles. Miles is not my dog but I spend so much time with him you can say he's mine. My mom babysits her boss's grandchildren. There's a brother and a sister. Their names are Giana and Giovonni. They had a dog before Miles. His name was Otis. They had to give him away because he bit Giana three times, but all in different places. Then later they got a new dog, and named him Miles. Miles is a black lab who's really soft and loves to bite. He only bites because he is still a puppy. He is three months old. We are there every day from 8:00 to 5:00. If my mom works long enough, I might get to watch him grow.

I can't wait for Christmas

Hi I'm Destinee and I am going to tell you what we do every Christmas. On Thanksgiving we go to my grandma's house in North Pole. We eat, we chat, and we have a great time. When we are done my grandma goes around asking everyone to pick a piece of paper. Once we get our piece of paper we show her who we got and she writes them down on a note pad. By the time Christmas comes, we go downstairs and sit in a circle. Then my grandpa gets the presents under the tree and calls out names. That person has to come up and claim their prize. The way we do this has been in the family for years and is still going. I think you call this a tradition. That is what we do on Christmas.

The Mean Little Ant

When I was little I was very curious. I held things and suffered the consequence. I guess I didn't learn good enough because I held an ant. It looked so cute and nice I didn't bother thinking it was going to bite me. Well it did and I cried because it hurt.

I was so mad at that ant I kept it in a jar and shook it up thinking it would change his ways. When I was done punishing it I took it out and held it again, not thinking it was not going to bite me anymore. I was laughing. I even apologized to the little ant.

As soon as I said I'm sorry, HE BIT ME AGAIN. I was angry this time .I put it on the ground and stepped on it. After that I said to myself, "I'm never holding anything again."

Cold Weather

Here in Fairbanks, AK cold weather is normal in the winter. One time my gloves got wet so I put them outside to dry .... well, bad idea; when I went to get them, they were frozen solid. I couldn't even put them on, and that just proves how cold it can be here.

snow and more snow

today I hope it snows enough because I am supposed to go snow-machining with my dad. Over the summer was when he bought his snow-machine so that made me kind of excited about winter.

Every day since snow started falling I've been asking my dad if we can go, and all he says is "just a couple more inches." Every time he said that, I became more and more impatient. I have never rode a snow-machine before, so hopefully today will be the day. No, seriously, I hope today will be the day!!
