National Geographic Space Junk
I read the National Geographic magazine on Space Junk and went on the computer to learn more. I learned that space junk is made up of materials that humans cast into space. Some of the space junk is lost and broken satellites. Also some space junk is tools that astronauts lose in space. I also found out that about 13,000 close calls happen between astronauts and space junk each week. If scientists shoot lasers at space junk to try to eliminate it. The fragments that get shot off tend to create more space junk! Astronauts wear bullet-proof material in space so that space junk can't slice through their suits. Astronaut Edward White's glove got lost in space and flew towards the earth at about 28,000 kilometers before it burned up. Space junk can be harmful to astronauts like Edward, so I'm glad scientists are finding ways to be rid of space junk, aren't you?
Sixth-Grade Reading
When I got here at the beginning of the year I loved to read. I've read so many books this year I can't even list them all.
Some of the series I've read are The Cirqe Du Freak series, The Charlie Bone series, and The Pendragon series. We also read class books like the Giver and The Watsons Go To BIrmingham.
I've also found out that I like reading mystery series's like The Hardy Boys series, I've checked all of the new Hardy Boys books from the school Library and I hope to search for more. I like to read, and I'll always try to find fun books!
Before I came to sixth-grade, I was reading smaller books. Now I'm reading books that are hundreds of pages long. For instance, The Pendragon series has some books with over two-hundred pages!
I've always liked to read and I hope that will never change!
Pendragon On Cloral
Do you like to read? Well if you don't, too bad, because I love to read! I am currently reading a book called Pendragon. It's about People from different territories (planets or places anywhere) called Travelers. A Traveler's job is to go to different territories and help where it is needed.
For instance, Bobby and his Uncle Press are in the first book they went to a territory called Denduron to prevent it from a civil war between two rival tribes, The Milago and The Bedoowan. But in this next book Bobby and Press travel to an underwater territory called Cloral. Cloral is on the break of civil war. The food supply is being poisoned by none other than Saint Dane, who Bobby had the pleasure of stopping him from destroying the mid evil world of Denduron. Angered from defeat, Dane tries to poison Cloral's food supply so the inhabitants are fighting for food.
Bobby and Press get taken to a floating city on the underwater world called Grallion. There, with the help of aquaneers, try to thwart Saint Dane from destroying all of Cloral. To do that, they must first travel to the lost city of Faar. Only there can the cure to save Cloral can be found. My least favorite part of the book is when Saint Dane escapes and sends bullets at Press from a different territory. The gun blast kills Press, but before he dies he tells Bobby that they will see each other again in Bobby's lifetime. Press is buried amongst the heroes of Cloral.
My Magic Wand
My name is Jake, and I'm a collector of strange items. And it was on my way to school that morning that I saw the wand. It was laying right side up in the snow, it's crimson tip sparkling like fiery embers. I also forgot to mention that I'm an inventor; I invent peculiar things like a jet that is incredibly sleek and comfortable. The black jet was only one of my many inventions.
Anyway, I looked out the window and spotted the wand. I put the jet on cloaking mode, which it vanished from sight. Then after doing a bioscan to make sure no one was around, I hit the button and descended down the ramp. I crept over to the glowing stick and snatched it up, and stuffed it in my pocket and climbed into the plane.
On the way to school I studied the wand; there were strange markings on it, as if it were from a different planet. It still gave out a crimson glow, but sometimes changed colors ever so slightly. It was blue, red, green, purple and grey. Time flies so fast, so the next thing I knew I was listening to Mr.Noon talk about ratios in math. "...So as you can see ratios are very important in life." He finished the lesson quickly then we gobbled down snack.
Then we began social studies. The rest of the day went on like this until recess. At recess, I played football with the usual gang. As I played, I noticed I was running faster. I looked into my pocket and saw the wand glowing bright yellow for speed. As I got bored I decided to go on the hill and play. The sledding hill was tall and big. I walked up the hill, and my boots seemed to slide up, as if they were connected to an imaginary conveyor belt. When I got to the top I got a sled and hurled down the massive hill. It might have been me, but I seemed to be going faster and faster! The sled hit a bump and flew down sideways, when I got up I looked myself over, there was absolutely no snow on me, not a speck!
It was then that I realized what happened, I looked in my pocket and saw the wand glowing white. Later, when I got home, I saw a homeless guy on t.v. I saw the wand glow gold and the guy suddenly became rich. I gasped, and suddenly knew the wand could do anything, I had to return it now! The thing that happened to the homeless guy was great but, I knew the magic could work just the opposite.
I asked my dad if he would drive me to the location where I found the wand. "Sure, Jake, just wait a few minutes while I make a call."
He dialed a number on his cell phone and talked to some guy I didn't know. I listened to him talk, and when he finally hung up, he said, "Okay I'm ready to go."
We drove to the spot in my dad's small silver car. Once we got there, I asked him to wait in the car while I put the wand back. He just smiled and nodded. I crept and stuck it in the exact place that I found it. A few minutes later we left to go back to my house and ate dinner. Shish! What a day!
Las Vegas!
My name is Jake and I'm here to let you know I would go to Vegas any day. Wouldn't you? It is my favorite place known to man. One, because my uncle lives there; two, because it's so sunny and nice out there. And Hoover Dam is located there, as well.
I like Hoover Dam, considering that I've been there once before. Once you're in there, it makes you feel like you're inside area 51. (At least, I did.) I saw their power turbines and got to go on a special tour. I found out that it took hundreds of workers and builders to make it. Hoover Dam was very exiting!
But My absolute favorite part of Vegas was the strip. The strip is technically Vegas's downtown area. The strip hotels are probably some of the nicest in the world. I've stayed at a couple of the strip hotels, including two of my favorites, The Luxor and The Excalibur. The Luxor is in the shape of a pyramid. The place looks like a pyramid, too. It is incredible at night because the top shoots out a beam of pure white light, lighting up the hot dark sky.
My first favorite hotel on the strip is the Excalibur. It is made to resemble a stone medieval castle. Once you walk inside, there are two stone dragons waiting to greet the guests. The first floor is a video game arcade; the second floor is the restaurants and the gambling area. Boy, my mom did it once, and won a lottery, although I don't remember how much she got.
My favorite restaurant there is (I forget the name.) a place that's cluttered with toilet paper, and the waiters even make hats for you. I am guilty for having a toilet paper fight with my waiter. I've eaten there twice; it's soooo good! Now we get to the third floor. It's kind of a magic show place/Giant Buffet.
Next let's go over to the food court, and Krispekream Donuts. They are the best donuts ever, I think ( not done)
Tennis
Tennis is an excellent sport! To play tennis you need only four things - yourself, tennis balls, a good quality racket, and a tennis net/ court. Tennis is a sport that needs strength and durability, not to mention exceptional reflexes. Tennis is a sport that can be played indoors and outdoors. If you have absolutely no access to a tennis court whatsoever, you can buy a portable tennis net at a store like Fred Meyers or Wall - Mart.
Gilly Hopkins
Boy I wouldn't like living in a foster home, it would split my mind right down the line! I mean you live with people you don't even know. But I suppose it mends in time. That's not how Gilly Hopkins feels about Maime Trotter her new and laaarge foster mother. She thinks bad of her because she hovers over Gilly, and Gilly believes she is too friendly.
I think that Trotter tries so very hard to protect Gilly's new foster brother, William Ernest, A.K.A W.E. She very believes there is something wrong with him. I think William Ernest is a meek boy who does his best to fit in.
In the Wastelands of Fallout 3
"Ahh,don't let fool get you!" I yelled as a giant mole rat jumped on my friend Scott's player. Well let me re-phrase that. This week I went over to my friend's and we played video games a lot. Mostly we played Fallout 3. Fallout 3 is a video game. In the start You are born after a nuclear war as a boy. Once you complete certain tasks you get further and older in the game. Once you get to be sixteen you leave the vault where you lived your whole life. Once you leave you can do whatever you want including entering towns, meeting people, help the townspeople or cause complete havoc!
My friend and I destroyed Magaton which is a town, after that you travel to Tenpenny Tower where you become a resident. The tower is a pretty nice place considering it's after a nuclear war. The bad thing is that we played it on my friends X Box so I can't have it saved on mine, so he gets all that stuff and I don't!
Hardly Fair!
Well I think that the game Fallout 3 is fun. It gives the players all sorts of enjoyment and fun! So I would recomend this game to anyone who likes to play fun exploring games.
The Sea Shells Of Marco Island
"Hey Jake!" I turned around. My mom was standing with her camera in hand ready to fire! I mean she's always ready to fire or take your picture. I looked right into the small orb that projects the flash. I heard a click and the camera was done.
"Good one, Jake!" she said grinning. My dad and brother looked at mom with annoyance. Or at least my dad did, my brother just was sitting there looking like he was from a different planet or something. His emerald eyes were alive with oddness and happiness. when they looked down to a large and glorious sand castle, Emerald Eyes had pleaded dad to build one for him.
My mom was somewhere getting lame photographs of warm Florida to take back to cold Fairbanks. I decided to walk around the beach. I was looking for seashells to take back to my class in cold Fairbanks.
WW2
Everyone on Earth should know the evil events committed by none other than Adolf Hitler and his followers. The Nazis were trying to eradicate the Jewish population worldwide. Hitler, who at the time was the Chancellor of Germany, tried to have men kill the sick and dying Jews.
The Jews died many ways including being shot, gassed, electrocuted and stabbed. In some cases they exterminated whole towns to find Jews, and left the searched homes in charred ruins. Hitler then ordered a boycott of Jewish jobs. But it was unsuccessful, but more Nazi laws came robbing the Jews of many rights. The Nazis also had a plus sign they put on youngsters. If the sign was blue they lived. If It was red they received the opposite fate.
Wanado City!
If you have been to Florida and think you've seen It all, well guess what - you're wrong! If you haven"t yet, you should go out to Wanado City. It's amazing!
Wanado City Is In Miami, Florida. The place is inside a Miami Mall. It's a whole town for kids! There isn't a job in this world (besides a teacher) that it doesn't have. Plus it's educational for the kids.
Once you're inside, and you've paid of course, you walk into a large indoor town. The town has a lot of kids running around and parents and grandparents huffing and puffing to keep up. First you go in the bank and get some cash! Then you try to go around town and look for places to work. And you really do things like be a vet, help at a hospital, work for CNN news program. And you learn about how CNN produces their news brodcasts. There are all sorts of people working at CNN to maintain everything. For instance there's Anchors, Make Up Artists, Camera Men and more!
What I did today! *
Greetings class, It's me, Jake, in sunny old Florida. To start off the day today, I ate a donut for breakfast. Then we went to the beach to add to our sand castle. To tell you the truth, there wasn't much to add; we had everything where we wanted it to be.
Last night we hosted a party at our condo for some of our friends we met in Florida. At the party we played chess, ate chicken and noodles for dinner. I watched my little brother play, and all that fun stuff.
After everyone left we went to the beach and gazed at the sunset. I thought about home As I gazed into the setting sun.
My Trip to Florida part 2
Dear Class,
I just got back from the beach. At the beach me and my mom looked for seashells. There were lots of different colors like pink and white. While we were doing that, my dad and my brother Gus build a sand castle with moats, turrets, caves and everything. I helped build the caves and the guard towers. The sand was snow white and it felt warm and smooth.
Last night, we went to a hockey game. We watched my adopted brother Ryan who played for the Florida Everblades. The arena was freezing cold and we went out outside to warm up, instead of going outside to freeze. These are two differences in the climate. After the game we went upstairs to the restaurant and had a party. It was loud and really fun. Now I am going to do math.
My Vacation To Florida
Greetings, class. It's Jake, and I am sitting here at my Condo, in Florida typing to you. I trust it is now six-thirty nine there. It is ten-thirty nine here in Florida because of the time zone changes. I have been keeping up with our school work.
It is very warm and sunny here. While I was sitting by the pool I saw a enormous leaf that had dried up. The next day I woke up and I saw my Father already up, I walk out and say "May I come with you to look at the beach." I can see that is what he is about to do."Get ready and you may come" he had said. So a few minutes later we were down by the beach. On the beach we smelled the fresh air and the ocean salt.We saw a fish that was stuck on the beach. My dad tossed it back in and his hat fell into the sea. I laughed at the sight. After the fish was back in the ocean, we walked on. We saw all kinds of shells and sand dollars. It was a very interesting sight. I will also have some pictures that Mr. Noon can scan when I get back.
Fly On The Wall!
Anyone think I'm a fly on a wall? If you did, you would be right.(I'm just not a real fly.) The exercise ,"Fly On The Wall" is a thing where you listen and observe movement and sounds that you can hear all around the school. Mr.Noon (my teacher)took us around the school and put one of us at different places. We were required to write down anything we saw or heard.
It could be anything from a quiet environment to a noisy one. My location was upstairs once and downstairs twice. My favorite location where I heard the most was in the upstairs hallway right across from Mrs. Hall's classroom. My experience of Fly On The Wall was a good one. Why I think it was a good one was because it allowed me to see and hear everything that was going on around me. For instance, I heard a bunch of noisy girls walking down the hallway. In my opinion the best part was hearing and seeing people do stuff like go to the workroom or teaching a class.
Dangerous Laughter**
Yow! It's a hyena but these aren't the hyenas from Lion King. [We read about them....] They're dangerous! (Not that they weren't, but these are the real thing.) For instance, they can run really fast, as in thirty miles an hour. The spotted hyena populates east Africa. They are hunters and scavengers. That means they will eat almost anything including pots and pans.
So you get the impression that these aren't your typical house pets. A spotted hyena's laughter is not a typical, "I told a joke," laugh. Their laugh is the way they communicate with one another. This metal-eating creature definitely deserves a place in the Frightful Animals Hall of Fame!
My opinion of this creature is I think he's scary. And I wouldn't want to be the one to meet him one afternoon. If you're frightened of animals with extremely sharp teeth then don't run into this hyena. Their teeth can go through tough bones and even metal. That's sharp teeth!
My Weekend
What did I do on my weekend? I woke up got dressed and ate breakfast. My mom then called my friend and said that we're ready to come over. So at about 12:00, we drove to North Pole.
We turned on their drive and parked the car "We're here, kids," my mother said.
We walked to the door and knocked, and my friend answered it.
"Come in; come in," he said, and we walked in.
My friend's mother greeted us. His mother and my mother talked while me and my friend went into his room.
Once in his room he got out his bakugon game and we played while we watched Dr. Who on TV.
"This is fun," I commented to him, and he showed me all his bakugon.
I've never known much about bakugon. I've never really been into it anyway, until last weekend, that is! I now think it's pretty amazing!
So after we did that for awhile, we went swimming at Westcott pool. For some reason it took forever for a clerk to get there!
"Yes?" she said.
"Two, please," I said.
"All right then." she said.
The clerk gave us the price we paid and went into the locker room. I jumped into the pool and then swam in the direction of the deep end.
My Brother's Birthday!
September 17,2009! The date someone in my family has been waiting for, and what day is that? My Brothers Birthday! Well you see my brother's birthday is very exiting for him.
It's really quite cute, you see, my brother woke up every morning in the month and asked, "Is it my birfday?"
Yes, I meant to say the F, in birthday, because that's how he says it. But today's the big day; it's his birthday!
I'm very exited for him and his day. I'm guessing our mother has something fun planned for the family. He's exited about his birthday. I was at school, but I'm guessing he woke up in La La land. So I hope he has a great birthday.
A boy and his dog!
My dog Bowser! I have a dog named Bowser, and and don't ask why I named a girl Bowser, because I don't know! Bowser is eight years old and a good dog.
The good thing is she almost never barks. Bowser also sometimes enjoys eating the food that we "drop off the table." She also looooves to play tug a war with me. She is a loving animal that likes to play....you guessed it folks, she loves to play Fetch!
At night she sleeps next to me and my brother in my bed. But wait a minute, I'm not done, not in the least! I'm merely getting to the ...(I like doing the dot thing) the sad part.
2 years ago we lost her in...well, you no what? I think I'm going to tell you that story from the beginning. We were driving to the Fire Works. My mom and I were already there when my dad came up and said, "Bowser's gone!"
"What?" I shifted my gaze toward him and he looked at me sadly.
"It's true," he said.
My mom commented, "Let's go find her."
So me, my mom, my friends, and my brother got into my mom's car and we rode off! We shouted for her, yelled, looked, drove through snow, but she wasn't there.
My Head Injury
Ouch! The ouch all started when I was watching a freaky movie, when I was ten. I was at the part where The Joker was getting kicked around by Batman, when suddenly a call rang out, "Jake, turn that off now!" My mother descended the steps. But sadly, I was ten, and I was also stubborn.
The show continued, "Jake, Now!" mom said. But I still didn't do it; finally I glowered at her and my father before I shut off the TV.
"Fine!" I angrily booted past them, and walked down the hall, and Slip! I tripped over a shoe and, Bonk! My head hit the wall behind me (I tripped backwards you see!) and I cracked my head against the wall.
You know how you feel when you're in a trance. It was like I was in a trance trying to figure out all that happened, but soon I knew! For, knowing that I tripped, I reached my hand back and felt dark red blood oozing back out of my head.
"Ahhh!" my mom screamed and my wide-eyed father, probably not far from doing the same, looked at me, terror stricken! I was horrified, asking my parents if I was going to die!
Ebay!
Ebay, I like the internet website known as ebay! I am bidding for some cool items off of ebay! Ebay is an amazing website, and I look forward to more bidding. If you like to look for rare items then ebay is your place! I encourage shoppers to look on ebay. If you can't find what you're looking for in stores, ebay is your place!
So if you are in need of an item, for instance a video game, try ebay than the stores. You can also type in any item on ebay, then look for different categories of the item to suit you. If you look on ebay then you will probably find the item you seek!
Kids in alaska
Kids in Alaska!! I can't begin to tell how amazing it is to be a kid in Alaska. I'm twelve and I'm in 6th grade. I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself. First of all, I like to play tennis! I also have a little brother and a dog. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Now I'm going to tell you a little bit about the weather here in Fairbanks! In Fairbanks you kind of get the best of both worlds. It's winter for a while and summer just as well. The thing that is kind of sad is that in the winter it is 40 degrees below zero! The cool thing about winter is that you can create snow forts and snowmen.
Now for summer! Summer Rocks! Summer is super cool in Fairbanks. I'm not sure how warm it gets, but it is warm.
I was just introduced to this program a couple days ago because of my 6th grade class, and I am glad I was because this program is very cool.
